slugshooter
Re: Nascar in Mexico I'm kinda torn between the whole issue, I didn't mind the Japan thing because there is no way that Japan would ever be placed on a regular schedule and I was fine with the whole exhibition thing. NASCAR is popular all over the world, did anyone see the Jimmy Johnson: Common Thread special on Speed Channel that followed him around when he went to the Race of Champions deal in Paris, well, there were French and British that knew who he was and were NASCAR fans. The crossing of borders is inevitable, just like Rockingham and Darlington losing races, the only question is who is next on the list for losing a race date. I was surprised to see that they went to Mexico before Canada but I heard that the tracks in Canada were not big enough for NASCAR's liking, I don't know if that means actual track size or grandstand size. I don't like the changes that NASCAR has proposed recently, but there isn't much thats going to stop it, even the drivers wouldn't be able to stop it, the last time drivers tried to stop a NASCAR decision Big Bill France ran the race without them and had a bunch of no names racing at Talladega, NASCAR will continue whether or not the big names refuse to drive in a race or not, but with the contracts they sign and NASCAR calling all the shots the driver is really limited. Chrud
Re: Nascar in Mexico Yes, they do travel a long ways for Fontana and Vegas, but look at the amount of attendance, well over 150,000 for the weekend. They probably won't even top 90,000.

RTF
Re: Nascar in Mexico Anybody watch qaulifying today ? A mexican driver took the pole. It is so wierd to hear the grandstand announcer and not understand a word they say as I dont speak spanish. I dont like this track one bit. The cars come to a crawl way too many times IMO. HeviShot
Re: Nascar in Mexico It is so dangerous that the drivers from USA have to ride a bus into the track from the motel room.Once at the motel/hotel they cannot leave. RTF
Re: Nascar in Mexico That race sucked. What a joke. I felt that the drivers where being way too extra carefull around the Mexican drivers. Tv coverage was lousy and the race was lousy. It was like follow the leader. No racing of any kind.
MUDRUNNER
Re: Nascar in Mexico I thought the race was pretty lousy too.Way to much follow the leader for my taste.I was surprised that the attendance was as high as it was though.I don't see the cup guys going there any time soon. Chrud
Re: Nascar in Mexico The race was boring. Over 3 hours! Everytime there was a caution, it seemed like it would be 10-15 minutes before they'd go racing again. With all the other "Mexican" style festivities, it didn't even seem like a NASCAR race. Brian France needs to get out.
slugshooter
Re: Nascar in Mexico I just think a lot of you guys are upset because it was the first time a NASCAR race was held outside this country. It was a road course, when was the last time you saw 30 lead changes in a road race, it is always follow the leader whether at Sonoma or Watkins Glen, especially when Gordon is leading. Every race nowadays has tons of cautions for little things and it takes them forever now to clean it up, no different than the NCTS race at Daytona or Busch or Cup, they throw the caution flag every so often and spend 10 laps making sure the track is clean, cause, God forbid they let em go and someone runs over a piece of debris, then they'll complain that NASCAR doesn't spend enough time clearing the track. I liked the race about as much as I like any road course race, the drivers don't seem to be complaining about racing in Mexico City, I'm sure Truex isn't gonna return the money cause NASCAR shouldn't be in another country. I just wonder if the complaints would be as strong if they had went to Canada instead, probably not. I have been a NASCAR fan my whole life, I have been opposed to the Chase format, to closing Rockingham, to Darlington losing a race, but this isn't really that big a deal, it's inevitable, just like Gordon winning his 5th Championship , you just have to learn to deal with it.
