Ever have one of "those days"?

Yesterday at work was one of them...

I had worked till 11pm the night before, so the new RN i'm training covered for me while I got a little extra sleep. As soon as I hitthe door at work at 10:40am, I get "Oh good you are here!" Fire alarm went off...signaled something in the dining room next door. So we are waiting for the FD and maintenance to come and the alarm signals evacuate all floors...Well we weren't seeing smoke but could smell something, I said ok let's tag our patients just incase. FD finally arrives...about 10 minutes later we see them driving off! They never came through our floor and gave us the ok...nothing, no communication. Well I guess the fire chief came and eventually our maintenance guy told us it was the food warmer table, then said no it was the fire alarm pull got tripped...but then why was the table cord hot and the wall hot and something smelled electrical burning??? Duh...and he was being a jerk to boot.

So everything settles down, no evacuation. Well then a nurse on the other floor calls in, so then I'm trying to call someone to come in and can't find anyone! So I had to go over and mandate one of them stay because I can't find anyone for them. Well eventually someone else came in and it worked out...at the last minute!

Well then find out one of my pt.'s who hasn't been well for a couple days has a possible bowel obstruction, so then it's on the phone with the nurse practitioner and decide what to do, etc...

I finally got off the floor at quarter after 7pm to go down and work our urgent care until 11pm...

Seriously, look at our healthcare system...if the number of people who came in with simple cold symptoms actually just stayed home and self treated...the U.S. Healthcare system might not be as bad as it is....:poke:

So anyone else have a day recently that seemed to go "backwards"?:turned::p
