The_Kat
Pretty good advice. I would also tell those considering going to college for some worthless degree to think long and hard about it. Our parents, teachers, and school counselors told all of us that college was the ONLY way to succeed in todays world. Without college, you will be nothing. I, like many others, listened to that advice and got my degree. With that degree came lots of student loans. I now have a degree that enables me to make 30-35k a year. With that degree comes close to 30k in debt. Lucky for me, I'm one of the ones whose student loan debt is low. I have friends closer to 100k. The only friends of mine who have graduated with a BA or BS that have found jobs and are working are the ones who got teaching degrees. Student loans have to be paid back, and when your on a teachers salary....well $250 a month is hard to handle. Jenns check is 1800$ a month after taxes.... The rest of with degrees like mine have been looking high and low for any job they can find. Most have been unsuccessful in their search. In fact I am the only one who has found a job to where I can afford the things I want, save money, and still pay my bills. Funny thing is I don't even need a high school diploma to get into the field I'm in. Yet my job takes me 1000s of miles away from home, away from my family for months on end. It's certainly no life to have I assure you, regardless of the paycheck. I guess my point is that I would seriously reconsider the things that have been drilled into your mind as a young person and take a look at the world around you. If you must go to college, get a degree in something thats going to make you a GOOD living. Make sure it pays enough to pay back the student loans and still allow you to live life. If I could go back to 2005 and start over I would have entered directly into a vocational school and began a career in electrical, plumbing, welding, nursing, etc. Something thats short tracked, cheap to achieve, and pays very well. I hate watching my friends who were so bright and smart, who studied for years and did the right things struggle to have a place to live. To have to ask for rides because their car with 200k miles just broke down for the 3rd time this month. It definitely isn't the pretty picture out there that so many paint it, and I hope that you will walk forward with open eyes!
