texastrophies
I got off of my deer lease in South Texas in 2008 due to some family issues and since then I have had a few out of state hunts and hadn't been back. This year I am getting on another lease. I guess you might call it more West Texas than South Texas, but it still has that great brush country look to it. The area I will be hunting is south of Bracketville, Texas in Kinney County. I have already picked out my stand location, and hope to have a feeder up and running in the next couple of weeks. The ranch owner has a couple of protein feeders on the ranch that are in non-hunting areas. I was down there this past weekend, but didn't see any deer in the 104 degree temps, but I think that will change this fall.

Texan_Til_I_Die
I just got back from Falcon. Talk about a beat down, it was 105 with a 30+ mph wind. Felt like I was fishing in front of a blow dryer. That country is about to dry up and blow away, of course so is the rest of the state. So what's your new lease like? How many acres, hunters, etc? texastrophies
It is about a 1000 acre pasture out of a 13,200 acre ranch. There will be 4 guys on this piece. Looks like your normal south texas land full of mesquite & cactus, with one little surprise, there are a few big oak trees on the place. I was shocked at that. There is or maybe I ought to say WAS a 2 - 3 acre lake on the place, now it is just a dry low spot with a high bank on one side. The camp has a small trailer that is used as a kitchen and then two containers with bunks in them for sleeping quarters, think I will bring my travel trailer. Electricity & water are available. All the comforts of home, almost. Right outside of Spofford, if you know where that is. When my friend told me about it, first thing I said was "Is that in Texas?" Spent the day there on Saturday, truck temp hit 104 and had the wind also.

Texan_Til_I_Die
Oh yeah, I know where Spofford is. Watch out for southern visitors. If you have any nice box blinds, you may have to padlock them to keep the illegals from sleeping in them.
