Ethan Givan
Anyone know what kind it is? I have never seen a spider in KY this big. As you can see from the first pic it is 3 inches long! A big spider around here might be an inch and a half long at most, and this thing dwarfs that. I was going to lock the door, when it fell from the door frame above me and almost landed on my hand. I prodded it with a screw driver and found out real quick that he was rather agile and aggressive. After taking the pics I smacked it with a shovel, but I almost wanted something even bigger :2guns:These things freak me out
HUNTINGMAN
Spiders of Kentucky - University of Kentucky Department of Entomology. Looks like it may be a fishing spider from what I can tell.
Alisha
ACK! I hate those things! Back when I worked in a warehouse we were always finding wolf spiders and those things would come AT you! Better believe I was screaming and running! However one time I stomped one in our warehouse, took some things over to another building and when I came back, it was GONE! UGH, now I have the heebie jeebies!

BearClaw
At least you know where it went (dead) instead of running off only to be found again on top of your head or just where you go to reach for a tool or something!
Shaun_300
We have those things too, they can get pretty big! Seen them around 4 inches long, about the same size as an average tarantula!
Turkeygirl
EEWWW!! No thanks! That think is giant!
Strut10
Yep. No time for a spider that big. Dang !!! I've seen a few of those here from time to time. I live in a crappy old country farmhouse. It is literally like the Pennsylvania state spider zoo. I could charge admission. Gotta watch the kids around ones like in your pics. Might drag one of 'em off. Tominator
I'm cool with spiders as long as they don't surprise or startle me. If they surprise or startle me, they die.
Ethan Givan
Gotta watch the kids around ones like in your pics. Might drag one of 'em off. Haha I told my mom that it was probably keeping the rodent population in check. I'm cool with spiders as long as they don't surprise or startle me. If they surprise or startle me, they die. Most of the time spiders dont bother me, even if they get on me, I just flip them off. Most of the time they are not this big though. He nearly fell on me, and Im just glad I saw it out of the corner of my eye, or it would still be living out there.
Strut10
The only good spider is a dead spider True dat. You oughta see what a spider did to my Mrs.' upper thigh about 8 years ago. It was probably a recluse.....even though we aren't supposed to have them here. But it messed her up, but good.

gzilla45
I fall into the "the only good spider is a dead spider" grouping. I would have had a heart attack if I saw something like that in my garage.
NS whitetail
We have something like that here down around where our camp is, the same size, we call them tree spiders. I don't know the real name but they are huge and scary.
mike13candace
I have seen three simular to the one you squashed.. wood spider family. They have the same coloring as my barn (good camo). Brake cleaner worked great along with my boot. LOL
swohiodave
I brought my treestand home in early april and I took the protective seat cover off and a spider that looked a lot like that popped out in my garage. I am just glad he didn't decide to pop out in my car!

I need to get some more glue boards. I would probably let a spider like the one Ethan has there live in my garage if it ate the recluse spiders. There are some good spiders that kill bad ones. Got bit by a brown recluse back right before our son was born. Fortunately only symptoms I had was upset stomach and a little blister on my hand.
