LETMGROW
Shaun, had this one come in late Friday pm. Customer says no power and stalls out while driving. MIL is on. Plugged it in to the scan tool. P0012-int. cam position timing over retard bank 1 P0021-int cam position timing over advance bank 2 P0174-system too lean bank 2 P0 300- random misfire detected P0 302 cyl 2 misfire dected P0 303 cyl 3 " " P0 304 cyl 4 " " P0 316 engine misfire detected at start up P 2196 O2 sensor excess rich signal B1-S1 P 2197 O2 sensor signal stuck lean B2-S1 2006 Ford F-250 SD 5.4 V8 I looked at the clock and said, " I'm going home". I did! We'll check it tomorrow. At least a doctor has only 2 models to work on and they don't change from year to year. Lynn
Shaun_300
Holy smokes! I don't have much experience with the Fords but I've heard they bad for the camshaft actuators, if they screw up it could cause all those other codes to flag as well. Let me know how it turns out. Could be a stretched timing chain too. I know our newer 3.6L DOHC DI VVT V6 found in the Cadillac and Acadia/Enclave/Traverse/Outlook lineup were really bad for those chains. They'd stretch at low mileage and flag the SES light for camshaft co-relation codes. On the crossovers you need to drop the engine out to change the chains. Not a bad job, can get them done in 7-8 hours if everything goes smooth, which it normally does with the low mileage.
jcot2773
WOW! That is nuts.... Keep us posted on what the findings are.
redkneck
Sounds like work Lynn! I know BMW's have problems with their vanos system sometimes that will generate those codes. Seems like everything these days is getting more complicated and getting variable timing. Wish they'd leave well enough alone!
LETMGROW
I haven't been on the computer for awhile and forgot I posted this . I checked the truck out Mon. AM and found the bank 1 cam would vary at different rpm's. Then it would lock in and stay advanced or retarted or on center. We replaced the bank 1 actuator and still had an advanced bank 2 cam reading. I couldn't swallow the fact both sensors went bad at once. I called the owner and he told me the MIL had been coming on and going off for a couple months. Two gas cap changes later he still had the intermittent light. I finally gave in and replaced the second cam actuator. Bingo! All is well in Ford land. I talked with a friend who works at a Ford dealership and he said they have had problems with these units. Ford is recommending using OEM oil filters. Ford is blaming cheaper filters are breaking down and plugging the actuators. H'mmm, I'm not so sure. My friend says he has seen problems with trucks which have had only oil changes done at the dealership with OEM filters. Guess time will tell. Lynn GM has been feeding us the same BS about the oil filters. They're telling us to reject warranty to engine problems that have a non-AC delco oil filter on them. Yeah that's good for business. Gas is $5/gallon up here and you get a guy who lives in the sticks and would have to burn $50 in fuel to get an oil change at the dealer. I think it's because of the oil life monitors letting the engines go too long without oil changes. We see some of them go 10-12K miles before the light comes on, and some people go by them no matter what. I change mine every 3K no matter what! Always have and always will! LETMGROW
I couldn't agree more on the 3,000 mile interval for oil changes. As I always say, I have never seen an engine suffer from too many oil changes. Speaking of filters though. Have you seen or had experience with aftermarket air filters on Duramax diesels setting codes for MAF? Lynn
Shaun_300
Can't say I have Lynn, I know they probably wouldn't like the oiled ones though, they're pretty picky!
