Tim Andrus
both my guys that film for me are using the new Cannon models in HD. If your going to get camera that you think that you might want to use to submit to tv , get it in HD. That what everyone is turning to. Also there is a few Sony's that are popular as well
dbHunterNY
I've got a SONY Handicam that I've yet to test out just for personal use. Should be in HD and optical zoom you should pay more attention to opposed to digital zoom. I've heard it helps a lot if you've got a remote zoom accessory and a good arm or tripod. I don't have much experience filming, but that's what I've been told.
Rhino
Just wanted to say...thanks for the advise here Tim. I needed a new camcorder before I go to Africa. My new Sony HDR-CX700V with 2x tele lens, wide angle lens, filters, case, extra battery, charger, etc., etc., etc. came in today. Just what I needed in a compact HD camcorder. I shopped around and got a great deal on it with a package of goodies I wanted...all for less than the suggested retail price of just the camera. The only thing in the package I didn't need was another tripod but what the heck...too good of a deal. Now all I'll need to research is a new tree/stand mount. The only problem with my old one is the camera mount jointed arm is too short IMO but it isn't hard to pack into the woods with my hunting gear.
