Orion_70
I know this comes up every year, and it's that time of year again when clubs start paying up for the land leased from the timber companies. So, what are you payin in your area if you have to lease? The timber companies here have us starting at $15 an acre.. I just checked some of their tracts up for lease in other areas of the state and some go up to $30 an acre... the majority averages $15 -$18 an acre Our club, like many others, is struggling to get enough members to cover the lease and keep the price affordable with the economy in the state it's in. So, what does lease land go for in your area?
redkneck
Mostly in this state it will range from $7 all the way up to the low $20's for acreage along the MS river and Tombigbee. A few hard managed areas will get more than that, but I'd say 90% of the state would fall in the $10-15 range.
Rhino
It's $18 to $20 an acre where I hunt in MS but I'm about 4 miles east of the MS river in a high deer density area. That's about the going rate in that general area these days but I know of some places priced in the mid 20's. I've seen some school section land with winning bids higher than that! The worst thing is, since 2008 when the economy went in the toilet, lease prices went up...they are still going up.
wtnhunt
Think it depends a lot around here on who exactly you know. Have never paid for a lease, but considered it to get a place away from here where maybe there would not be so much pressure. Still a consideration. Heard the 400 acres behind us was leased out for only $500 a year, but have also heard the guy who told me that is a habitual liar so I am not sure if that is true. If true that would make that ground leased at $1.25 an acre, I really need to stop by and visit the lady who owns it. Got the impression last time I talked with her that she would not be too difficult to talk into taking a little more money and securing the ground for a few years. The ground just up the road less than 2 miles as a crow flies, a 138 acre piece, is supposedly leased out for a couple grand. Owner is not local but the guys on the lease are. Wife's step dad used to have permission on the place and it used to have some real nice deer years ago but have heard it has been bad overhunted. Last I heard there had been as many as 10 guys coming in there and they went all over property where they did not belong. Go figure.
sskybnd
were paying $6.25 an acer, we have 4 leases and 3 are paid for the year, were running short on getting the members to cut some of the cost on a 500 acre leaseif we dont find another will have to cover the bill, that will mean having to pay 700+ for the 4 of us

dbHunterNY
i know of one outfitter that the price varies a bit from lease to lease. Don't really know the price per acre, but he'd pay more depending on the circumstance. that all i got. i'm fortunate enough to own a little land and have a bunch (relative to the North East) in the family. JJL
I spoke with an outfitter last week. $12-$25/ acre depending on the property. He has 60,000 acres leased for this fall. Most ranches are 2,000 -5,000 acres each. Sure hope his clients show up. Now you know why hunts are $5,000.
ruttinbuc
The price can be as high as $50/75 an acre on prime properties in this little shoe box of a state.
