swohiodave
Ever have the discussion with family or inlaws? My inlaws try acting like anyone that would carry a firearm intends to kill someone. Ohio is on its way to opening carry up inside establishments that serve alcohol as long as you don't consume your self. My wifes mom and grandma both started going on about "why would anyone in a bar need a gun". I then explained how the media is twisting in and it is moslty for restaurants and said how you cannot drink and carry anyway and that those that will drink and carry most likely do so without a license (criminals). The kicker is her dad is a deputy sherrif and he brought his kids up to be afraid of guns. Won't they love it when i take their daughter and grand kids shooting and hunting with me. Some people do not get it until they are in a bad situation where they would need it. I guess criminals will only attack/rob you when you are at home! terry264
Your father in law probably carries a gun, does that make him dangerous? Does he carry a fire extinguisher in his car? If he does, I guess he's an arsonist too. A handgun is just like a fire extinguisher, better to have one and never need it than to need one and not have it. m gardner
The government (police, etc.) are not antigun, they own lots of them and protect themselves. They are anti-you-owning a gun. I carry 24/7 and even go to church with it. My employer encourages us to carry at work too. It's my right. While on the subject of LEOs, most of them I've shot with are deplorable shots. I shoot competitively and when one shows up we watch them carefully. Most self destruct on the courses and are too embarrassed to come back. A few keep comimg and learn and become good, safe tactical shooters.
m gardner
When people say I carry a pistol because I want to kill someone or get smart and ask if I'm expecting trouble I tell them that if I was intending to kill someone or expecting trouble I'd have brought my rifle because a pistol is not a good tool to be in a gunfight with. Unless you are a TV action hero most of us use a pistol as a last desperate attempt to defend ourselves or others.
swohiodave
Ignorance, I should have said I have my license to carry to protect their daughter and grandchildren. They try to smoke with the kids in the car, that is going to kill them before any firearm most likely ever will. My father is law raised his kids to be afraid of guns, that is the problem. I always make sure my wife sees me teaching my stepdaughter proper gun handling/safety and she has no problem with it. When I first moved in with my wife we heard glass shattering while we were sleeping and I jumped up and grabbed my maglight and Glock 26 and checked the house, since then she has not said a word about my guns. Luckily the neighbors were having company over and someone missed the trash can with a wine bottle. I hope to carry a gun and NEVER need it but I have it if I do. swohiodave
Talk about bringing the right gun, I should invite her to shoot my dad's M1 with us or Remington 30.06 pump gun. She may really enjoy a nice ar15 as well.

The government being anti-you-owning a gun has not been my experience(referring to Police only, not other agencies or government offices)...Of course, everyone's take is different. swohiodave
It depends here in Ohio. The highway patrol has a record of being anti-ccw and then hit or miss by county.
Strut10
My wifes mom and grandma both started going on about "why would anyone in a bar need a gun". Evidently Mom and Grandma don't watch the news. Mayhem can pop up anywhere..................... the subway, McDonald's, church, the mall ............. I carry mine everywhere I go (except at work because my employer does not value my life as much as I do) and I think nothing of it. A handgun is just something everyone should have with them all the time.......just like a clean hanky and a pocket knife.

So living in New York you can just go buy any handgun you wish and carry it without government approval? Things must have changed for the better since I lived there. WNY_Whitetailer
Maybe you missed my little "Police Only" disclaimer on my previous post...
m gardner
Maybe you missed my little "Police Only" disclaimer on my previous post... Okay, I didn't get the point you were making and I guess you didn't get the one I was making either. The lawmakers are the ones that have become the problem not the ones who enforce them. It would be like the difference between the disease itself and it's symptoms. Edited June 22, 2011 by m gardner
swohiodave
I am reading the break-in report in their neighborhood right now to my wife. Atleast it was good to see when they tried to argue with me she stuck up for me right away.

Atleast it was good to see when they tried to argue with me she stuck up for me right away. The best thing about your situation is that you and your wife are aware of the situation. Being alert and planning ahead will probably keep you safe and you won't ever need to use your weapon. I know that since we have patrolled our own neighborhood and moved the people that didn't belong here (it's 55 plus) there are lots less people looking for opportunities. We had a surly liberal come to visit our neighbor and she was snotty when she asked me if it was neccessary to carry a pistol all the time. My neighbor told her that it probably wasn't anymore but she was very happy I had the courage to do it until it wasn't necessary any longer.
