Well?

I got an invite to hunt up in Niagara county, Tim. I would need to take a closer look at the costs and such. I really hate to pass up those kind of opportunities. There are other offers from members here, but not so close to home. Costs are certainly a big part of the decision. I have 3 points to hunt Iowa, but the tag costs have gone way overboard since i accumulated them. Adding up the costs to get there and stay awhile shuts the door there.

Sure am Tim...1st road trip will be to Africa to bowhunt plains game. This will be my 1st time to hunt Africa. CANT WAIT! One of my best friends is going along with another good friend, Gene Wensel. We leave July 30th and start hunting on 8/2 somewhere around a 3 hour drive of Windhoek, Namibia. We're hunting with Dries Visser Safaris. With 10 days of bowhunitng I made a 6 critter harvest list. What the heck...might as well dream big. They are Kudu, Gemsbuck, Nyala, Zebra, Warthog, and Impala. I sure hope I make my taxidermist happy! This has been a dream bowhunt of mine and I'm not getting any younger. Neither is Gene's so this will probably be his last bowhunt across the big pond. New adventure with good friends...doesn't get any better than that!

My 2nd will be "do it yourself" bowhunting in Kansas again. Going with my best friend there too. We'll hunt all of Thanksgiving week. Saw 3 very nice bucks last November. One in particular was a B&C class 5x5 and we know he made it through the season. Passed a head scratcher and a short tined 6x6 that'll be better too. The shooters didn't get close enough last year but I have a couple of new trees in mind that will hold a stand this year.

So...you know your plans yet?

Making the trip back to Colorado this year with my dad and the gang for a mulie hunt. I was hoping for another buck tag but drew a doe tag instead. Oh well, I'll still be in Colorado with my video cams and will shoot the bucks with them instead of the .300 mag. My dad didn't draw anything so he will try to get an OTC cow elk tag once we get there and he is going to see if the landowner has any landowner buck tags too. That's all I have planned, the rest will be back home chasing whitetails.

Well, it's not a hunting trip, but I'm leaving next Monday for Alaska. Got a friend that keeps a boat up there in Petersburg and we're going to stay out on one of the islands and try to catch some halibut, ling cod, crabs and maybe some salmon if they're running. Really looking forward to a break from the 100+ degree temps we've been having all month!

Come Labor Day, I'll be up in the Weeminuche Wilderness chasing Bighorns. I drew a ram tag in unit 16 near Pagosa Springs, Colorado.

Elk season I'll be back in the Weeminuche near Durango. I have an either sex tag.

whoa.... congrats bob. and best of luck with the ram. that's desert sheep country, isn't it?

End of August Jake and I will go to Clayton, NM antelope hunting. Then elk for me at the beginning of October in Wyoming and maybe mule deer on a left over tag. South Texas will find me in Nov. and sporadically through the third weekend of January. Right before Christmas Jake has got invited by the President and CEO of the RMEF to return to the Double H ranch in New Mexico for a rematch with a cow elk. Then when we leave there if he is indeed lucky in the Arizona draw in a couple of weeks, Jake will be chasing mule deer in Arizona over Christmas.

We will also be applying for the Texas draw hunts here in a couple of months.

Other than that, not much going on, maybe a couple of day trips to my parents place about a half hour away for some small whitetails and hogs.

I actually started out this year without plans for doing much out of state hunting, figuring the AZ deer trip for Jake would be it. Has been a lucky year for draws for Jake and I.

Hunting at home like always...

Same here.

Kinda excited, though. This is the first time in 24 years at UPS I got my vacation when I wanted it. I've got the 1st & 2nd weeks of November off. I plan to be in a tree from dark to dark every day or until I drop something worthy of a trip to the taxidermist..................whichever comes first.
