mastr001
I live in Georgia which you cant hunt over corn, but my question is should i bait them or not. I first hunted this land last year and it was about a month into the season, but i wasnt sure what was there so i started putting out corn with a camera over it to see whats all there. Plenty of nice buck, but they were always showing up at night "until the rut" but i dont hunt over corn so i cant figure out if i should hunt there normal patterns or if i should start feeding them again. I just know it changes there patterns and wasnt sure so i am looking for some advice. Plus that corn is up to almost $10 for a 40 pound bag. Any advice
toddyboman
I live in Georgia which you cant hunt over corn, but my question is should i bait them or not. I would not. IF Georgia says you CAN NOT hunt over corn/bait then I would not want it anywhere on my property during hunting season. To easy for someone else to think you ARE hunting over bait...even if you don't....
sskybnd
i would have to agree with him, if it said you cant hunt over bait than i dont think i would want it , i dont beleave a gamewarden would realy take much stock into you telling him your not hunting over it, if he see's it on your property during hunting season. I have great luck doing that. Scraps are like buck magnets. Bucks in the area either go to work them or scent check them to check out what other bucks are in the area. mastr001
the law in georgia is you have to be 200 yards and out of sight of the corn. That is possible since the land i hunt is 70 acres, but i just want to try and keep the deer on the property. Just wasnt sure if it messes up there normal patterns if i start putting corn out in different areas. I just put out some minerals and salt to get some pictures. i hope that can atleast draw them onto the property for early bow season " early september". Deer are grazers.....They don't go to one place and eat and eat.....So dumping corn on the ground probably isn't going to keep them on your land for long periods of time. Plus every raccoon and bird is going to eat this corn too so you will have to replenish this spot every couple days.... I have NO CLUE what the entire Georgia law says....but in Missouri you can't even hunt the trails that lead to and from the corn/bait......So I could be a long ways from the corn but if the trail leads to it then I would be hunting over bait and that is going to get me into big trouble..... Just not worth it to me.... But good luck in whatever YOU decide to do.
wtnhunt
Far as the baiting at the camera, so long as it is legal I guess there should not be a problem, would be sure you clarify your regs though. On the corn, gotta agree with Todd on the raccoons. We have used corn out of season at cams and I quit using it due to the high number of raccoons.
