swohiodave
I have been thinking about getting new boots this season as both pair I have now are over 8 years old. I have one pair of 200gr thinsulate and the others are 800. What kind of boots do you guys wear and how much insulation? Here in Ohio we can have temps in the 60's down to the teens in the dead of winter.
wtnhunt
Here I am either wearing snake boots or rubber boots, sometimes both the same day. My rubber boots are 400 gram thinsulate and they are pretty good boots, wore them in Wisconsin in November a couple years ago and my feet never got cold. I did take my boot blankets with me, but never used the boot blankets in Wisconsin. I honestly think those rubber boots are warmer than the 600 gram rocky boots I had. Both pair of my current hunting boots are cabelas brands and I have been very happy with them. The cabelas pinnacle line is a real good line imo and they have some of those on sale right now. May be a while but my next boots will probably be a cabelas line and probably between 400 and 600 grams of thinsulate.
MUDRUNNER
I have a pair of Irish Setter 1200 gram boots for when it gets cold. They are about 5 years old and are holding up great. I also wear Redhead 400 gram rubber boots. These need replaced about evry other year, but are pretty cheap. I'm thinking about giving Muck boots a try this year. 92xj
For hunts that require a walk of 2 miles or less and hunts sitting in a treestand, I will always wear muck boots. I have had a pair for the past 6 years or so and would not trade them for any other boot out there. They are warm, but in the warmer months when my feet heat up I just roll the top down and let my feet vent. Honestly, this is the best hunting boot I have had and tried and will continue to do so until I stop hunting.
stevebeilgard
i have 1200 gram thinsulate as my feet are seldom too warm. just get the best boot you can afford with the highest insulation value and go from there.
Rhino
The older I get, that harder time I have keeping my feet warm. I'm getting some new boots this year too. I stuck a hole in my old 1200's late last year. My old 800's & uninsulated boots are about worn out too. I'll continue to stick with rubber boots for scent control purposes. This year I'm getting new pairs of uninsulated, 800's, 1200's, and some 1,500's. Getting old is overratted!
Strut10
Getting old is overrated! From what I can tell, though, it beats the alternative.
