ammo ?

Recommended Posts

Ok guys,i bought a new 22-250 and am looking for ammo options. this is a caliber i have never had anything to do with let alone shot. I am going to be looking for a cartridge my son and me can use for deer hunting. The question is,should I go with a lighter and faster bullet or get the heaviest one I can find for this gun. I know the heavier the better knockdown and the lighter the faster. I seen the new superformance ammo from hornady says 4000 feet per second in a 50 grain bullet but i found some at sportsmans warehouse that were i think 64 grains. What are some of your thought on this,I know some of you have shot these calibers befor.

If I were going to use a .22-.250 as a dedicated deer gun I would reload for it.

Most any factory loaded ammo for the .22-.250 is loaded with more fragile types of bullets for good expansion on varmints.

I would probably load 60 gr. Nosler Partitions for deer. The 62 or 70 gr. Barnes TSX would be a better choice yet. But I doubt your rifle will have a fast enough twist to stabilize them properly.

my uncle just hunted with his new Howa sport rifle chambered in 22-250 this past deer season. he took an 8 pointer with no problems using the 64gr Win power-point ammo. then i know the 60gr Nosler Partition is a great bullet for deer in 22 cal centerfires. So, I'll go along with what Don said completely.
