pruts
If I'm successful in the draw for a doe tag. I will shoot one anytime I get the chance.
WHISKEYSWAMP
I try to shoot one doe off each of the two main properties I hunt... That's just one of my personal rules and sort of the landowner's rules as well. Not everyone (landowner relatives) follows the rules so I generaly have to stick to mine. If late season comes around and there are still plenty of does, then I'll try to take another if okayed by the landowner. I like to put at least 2 does in the freezer but could easily go through 4 if I get the chance to hunt other spots. I try to fill my two archery doe tags any given time as they expire at gun season, or the week after Thanksgiving. aujack
Definitely try to put a doe on the ground during bow season since I haven't been bow hunting for very long and the experience really helps, and then depending on whether I killed one during bow season or not, I may pop one at the beginning of rifle season, but during the pre-rut, and rut, Does just get a wave from me. dbHunterNY
on my parent's farm my dad doesn't really let people shoot a doe. growing up he'd be lucky to see a track, because of lots of poaching and other stuff. the neighbors (also farms) tend to get nuisance permits and they use everyone of them. so does are taken in the area. i've waited until the late season most of the time. we've got a lot of does on the farm, because they don't get shot. many bucks we see will not stray too far. we've got 175+ pound does that have seen it all though. the older they get they seem to get more tempermental of us sitting in treestand locations year after year. last season had one of those old does get a feeling and make a whole herd of deer pack their bags. before that none of the deer had any idea i was right above them. this included a buck i was after that was on a string until she spooked. i just may thwack her early this season. Tecumseh
I hunt them all season long, we have a six deer limit where I hunt.
Shaun_300
Here in Ontario you have to go in a lottery to harvest does. Just put my number in the last day of June, should know in a couple weeks if I was successful or not. Last year there were 7 guys and we got 6 doe tags, usually we're lucky to get 1 or 2! swohiodave
I will try to shoot a doe right out of the gate if I can. The farmer likes us to take out pretty many does every year. I would like to shoot 2 does and then hold out for that buck. During the peak of the rut I try not to shoot any does but if it is a slow day I may take a doe out and tag her and go back up my stand. blackranny
I've got one farm where the owner requires me to take 2 does before any bucks. Another farm we have taken only does for 2 years now. And I live near a Town that has an Urban Archery season for does that is basically mid-Sept thru March! Last season I took 5 does and let every buck walk. Here in VA doe tags are pretty much unlimited, I've got 6 left over from last year that are valid until 11/21/11! I have NO problem taking a doe whenever with any weapon. It will have to be a 150" plus buck for me to kill a buck. Does taste SOOOOO good!
ruttinbuc
If you hunt the early season here in NJ you have to kill a doe before taking a buck. If I get any tags for county land it is a must at any time. I don't have a problem with it. What I have a problem with is the unlimited anterless rules in all seasons. The effects are quite noticeable on some of the public lands I hunt. My season starts the 2nd week of Sept.
92xj
I wish this state wasnt as screwed up as it is. Unless you draw a special tag it is illegal to kill a doe during the entire season.
hungry hunter
Since I hunt for meat, if does come buy, then I wll attempt to harvest them.
Hoosierbuck
I only shoot does when I have a shot at one. I love to shoot a big buck, but I guess I really have come down to being primarily a meat hunter. I have a "lifetime license" and we have an incredibly liberal limit, so I shoot as many as 8-9 a year for the freezer and one to donate.
