Jeramie
Its way too early but I seriously have the itch! Im ready to sit at the end of the ponds drinking coffee! Our teal season starts in September and it cant get here soon enough. Ive been working my golden as much as possible. She has a long way to go but seems to be doing a pretty good job. Im also going to do some hand detailing on a few of my decoys to get them ready. Ive got the shotguns ready to roll.... now I just have to wait. :bang: Anyone else have the itch yet? Or am I just really early?
Dakota
I hear ya', Jeramie. Duck season's fun...but I'm more looking forward to goose season. The ol' 10 gauge is itchin' to dump some Canadians. Got my first goose decoys ever (four-pack Big Foot floaters) last year and, paired with my buddy's standing/feeding decoys along the shore, they're deadly. Yes, waterfowl season can't get here soon enough. Dakota
jesse8953
I got a pop-up camper that I am going to demolition.Going to make a 4 wheeler trailer out of it.I'm going to use the canvas on the pop-up for a cover for my brothers boat.It will work great when we go to lake erie and hunt the rock wall. Our goose season opens september 1st and teal opens a week later. We don't see many teal around here.I look every week to see if anyone has diver decoys on sale.I'm going to buy at least a dozon more. 92xj
I do...since last season ended. I live this stuff. I got everything ready the weekend after the season ended for this upcoming season. One thing I have new is a 18'6" war eagle. That should help out with getting to different spots. Just need to re-rig a few dekes for a little deeper water and I will be good to go. Unfortunantly I will be missing opening day this year which is bitter sweet. Instead of chasing the first ducks, I will be in Southern Idaho chasing trophy mule deer, but the ducks will be in my mind. I love this flyway. 92xj
What environment are you hunting with your jerk cord? I will give you some ideas that I learned last season with my jerk cord. If you are hunting from shore make a concrete weight with an eye bolt in it to place at your feet. Run the cord through that so you pull straight up on the line or however you want to pull it. Without this weight/anchor every time you pull you will rip your line across the surface of the water and the ducks will flair big time. You dont want them to see the line or ripples at all. If you are in a boat, run the line under the boat and pull it into the boat on the back side. This will keep the line underwater as well. Make your weight over 5lbs but doesnt need to be as big as ten. Anything under five or so will rise up when you pull creating ripples around your feet, which you dont want. You might know all this already, but I took your post as this will be your first time using one and hopefully these tips will help. Also, if you have some 60/40 keels use a few of them on the jerk cord as well. will short burst, they will dive head down and look like feeders. Jeramie
Good advice... Im hunting a pond about 99% of the time. I am pouring a 1/2 gallon jug full of concrete for the anchor. As far as line im using black 100% nylon (catfish limbline). Im going to rig it with short leaders so I can take the decoys on and off. I figured I would add a couple of 1/2oz singers in the line to keep it under water. I also want to make the leaders different lengths so the decoys float out away from it when im not using it as a jerk. In some of the hunting shows ive seen they keep the decoys in a straight line and I really dont want that! I figured the leaders would range from 6" to no more than about 2' so the decoys spread out. And for what its worth, this is my family's pond (one of 13). It doesnt take much to get the ducks in. I have rarely, if ever, been that I didnt hammer them. Im close enough to the Arkansas line (and in the central flyway) that we get loads of greenheads and other breeds... I just really want to dress up the spread. If the wind isnt blowing the decoys just sit and occasionally ducks do pass but never attempt to land.

rbduck
Our general waterfowl season opens Sept 8th. We don`t have an early season for anything cept Sandhills which open Sept 1st. At the same time it is all over come December as it is -30 by then. We are pretty well ready though. Ron
