Rayzorp
Something similar happened to a friend of mine. I once read if you loose the blood trail, start search from point of impact and start walking in a spriral from last spot you saw blood. You already have a good idea of where he was last, so start from there,, good luck!!
horst
Re: Blood trail lost You have to wonder if the deer ran a mile after the shot if it was a fatal hit.Id find out how long they waited to follow the deer, if they went after it immediately and were pushing it to try to find it ahead of the rain its possible it went that far with a fatal wound. If they gave it time in between the shot and when they started tracking it Id say the deers probably not fataly hit, if he got the shoulder blade the arrow might not have penetrated far enough to kill it.I trailed a wounded deer last year, thought I hit her in the back of the lungs, maybe the liver.Followed her 3/4 mile the first night, another 1/ mile the second nght, lost the blood trail and had to give up.Two weeks later the farmer seen her walking around, the arrow still in her buried up to the flethchings.Again over a month later someone seen her, arrow still in her, crossing the road.Sometimes even fatal looking shots arent fatal and if they are the deer usually goes down within a couple hundred yards. archerjg
Re: Blood trail lost Like Rayzorp stated start walking in a spiral pattern from where the impact was or where you last saw blood. Archerjg
VTbowman
Re: Blood trail lost Yep with rain its no longer a blood trailing job its a body search. If it were me, based on the amount of blood you explained being lost, I would start a grid search from where you lost the blood. No reason to do spiral searching at the impact area if its a mile away. You know where it went from there. If indeed it lost as much blood as you feel it did, then it must be in some thick drainage or deep grass, etc. and maybe near water. It had to of been pushed a bit to of gone that far. Or like Horst said, it may not be a fatal shot. Sounds like it could of gone either way... I would bush wack all the thick stuff near the lost point of the blood trail and then do a grid search with as many guys as you can con into searching vs hunting. Good luck!!!
