Dawg
More than likely won't be able to disc my food plot this year so what would be the best seed to do a throw and grow type plot?
Ultradog
You just wont get much of a germination rate unless you can get your seed under the thatch or soil. Even if you broadcast and then mowed it would help.
Rhino
About the only thing I can think of that you can throw & grow Cory is ryegrass. Not the best option for a food plot but better than nothing I guess.

Not the best option for a food plot but better than nothing I guess. If you can find it rye grain would be what I would probably go with. Pennington's wintergrazer rye will grow about anywhere without too much soil prep and the deer really like it. Our local feed and supply store that was a pennington dealer went out of business. Dawg
I was thinking rye grass also. I'll look into the Pennington's, not sure if any of the feed stores around here carry it. Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the info. The grain is more palatable and also more preferred for deer than the grass. Any pennington dealer should be able to get the wintergrazer rye usually without charging you any extra on shipping.
Dawg
Looks like Lowes and Tractor Supply carry the Pennington line. Going to swing by both at lunch today to see what they have. Thanks again!
dbHunterNY
i threw that out with just a 40 lb bag of some re-cleaned oats for deer browse and to keep the weeds at bay. got them at a local Agway feed store cheap; $10 a bag. this was in the spring and it took just fine. it came in and grew quick. it grows tall to give deer some cover as well.
