NS whitetail
I took these pics 3 weeks ago when they first took off the cast and removed the stiches. They then put the cast back on and told me it's going to be a while. I was there again on this past Thursday, they x-rayed it and put the cast back on again and it has to be in place along with the pins for at least another 2 weeks. One swing off an axe has ruined 7 weeks of my summer . The doctor did say that it is healing pretty good but I will probably never have normal use of it again, my hands are my job, but I am sure that I will adapt. Turkeygirl
Give it some time...Once you can start using your hand, you can hopefully re-build some muscle strength and nerves and use it, just not 100%. Tendons/ligaments are probably done for as they have very little blood supply but you will be able to adapt...

Jeramie
That makes for a bad summer.... I smashed my index finger under the hold down of a 60-ton sheer. I understand how painful hand injuries can be! Good luck and keep it clean..

HB yes I am, I never explained how I did ............ sometimes when I split wood with the woodspliter, they don't split clean so I have always just pulled the piece apart and finished the hangy strands with the axe, well when I pulled this piece apart and was holding it, it decided to spring back together as I was swinging. My thumb must have been bend because I cut the whole top of the knuckle off ..... bone, cartlidge and tendons ( which was still hanging out of my thumb ), the second pic shows the angle of the cut. plus the doctor had to cut my thumb up further to get the tendon back. dbHunterNY
You practically lost your thumb so it is going to take awhile to heal. I understand where you're coming from though. Hang in there it's only going to get better. I could imagine it's rough to deal with right now.
ckrich
I had a thumb/hand injury that was that bad just a couple of years ago. It's going to take some time, and it's going to seem like it's taking longer than it really is. Pretty soon, you'll get that cast off and start on the physical therapy. It's going to be a long, painfull process, but if you push through it and do everything the doctors and therapists tell you, then you should be fine. Good luck and I'll be praying for you.
