Here is my problem We started hunting a new property a couple years ago and its loaded with apple and a few pear trees. I'd say there are 20-25 apple trees and 4 or 5 pear trees. Most of the apple trees are together and it basically turns into a deer zoo once the apples start hitting the ground. This will be our 3rd year hunting the property. Last year and the year prior there were apples everywhere from August through the end of deer season. All the sudden this year there is nothing on the trees! I remember in turkey season seeing lots of blossoms on the trees. However, when we went to put up our cams this weekend we found that there are 2 or 3 trees that have a few apples on them but most of them have none. The pear trees seem to be producing all right but the apples are not. I actually have a few apple trees in my backyard which is about 3 miles from this property and my trees are all loaded up with apples. So my question is what could be causing these trees to suddenly stop producing fruit? Is it common to have years like this? Can we expect apples next year? Really dunno on the trees where you are at, is it possible that those trees that have no fruit lost them in wind or storms or weather related? Little worm gets in there and kills the apple before it can get going and it drops off. Apples need to be pruned and sprayed pretty often to keep the yields high. Turkeygirl Posted July 31, 2011 Report Share Posted July 31, 2011 You are not alone. At the one end of our property we have several apple trees. Last year the majority of them were loaded except for a few. This year a few are loaded, several have none. Not sure whether it has to do with male/female apple tree, also frost when the trees were blooming and pollination. I noticed we had very high winds when the apple trees started blooming so I think that curbed some of the apples. Also like XT man said, I notice some seem to have apples every other year.
