Questions on a new phone

I am looking for a new phone and need to get a "Smart Phone". I am on Verizon and am looking at several different ones. Leaning heavily to the Motorola Droid 3 but am looking at the Iphone and the HTC Thunderbolt. cost isn't the issue (Verizon screwed up and owes me a new FREE phone of my choice). The reason for the "Smart Phone" is the ability to accept credit cards via SquareUp. Best way to take credit cards I have found yet, the card reader is free and they charge a flat 2.75% rate per transaction, no matter the amount. App is free and money is deposited straight into my checking account, not routed through another account like PayPal. So please, any advice you good folks could send my way as to which phone to go with I would be most appreciative.

I can't speak for the Thunderbolt in particular, but I can speak for HTC products. I have had an HTC Aria (AT&T) for about 6 months now and haven't had a single problem. Many of my friends and co-workers have HTC phones, and I haven't heard a single complaint.

I've had the Droid Charge through work for about a month now... It took a little getting use to being my first dealing with a smart phone. I like it for the most part other than it doesn't seem to like the 3G network... goes in and out every now and then. I haven't been in a 4G area yet but from what I hear it is pretty fast. It is my understanding that Verizon will be expanding the 4G network to this area by next year.

As far as the card reader app you are looking for... couldn't tell you how it works on the Charge.

Batter issues is a common complaint with most smart phones.......IF and when you use it for a lot of internet use or even talking/texting alot they suck the battery. So be smart and plug it in when you aren't using it......All are usb compatible so you can plug it straight into your pc and it will charge.

I have an HTC Evo 4g from sprint. I love it. I can do anything I want on it. Yep it sucks the battery when I use the internet for a long period of time but as I said above I simple plug it in often to my pc or my car charger....

The 3g network is not near as fast as your home internet. SO I would make sure the phone has wi-fi capabilities. That way if you are working at home and you have wireless internet you can set your phone to pick up your wireless internet and run the phone of your home internet will be faster than the 3g or 4g your phone gets. Or anywhere else in the world that has a wi-fi connection

I'm an electrical engineer with a prepaid phone, so my feedback is limited. Can't give much feedback on the card swipe application. Haven't come across it. The touch screen interface is better on the iPhone. Both most likely have the app i would think. Navigation is easier at first on the iPhone, but you learn where to find things quickly with any phone after using it a little while. Sprint doesn't have the iPhone right now, but I've heard they will soon.

I just picked up a Motorola Droid X2 through Verizon about a week ago. It is my first smart phone and I've been able to pick up on it pretty quickly. It's not 4G capable, but that wasn't something I was too worried about because where I currently live doesn't have 4G and where my parents live just got 3G within the last year or so, so 4G is still probably a year or two down the line. It has a dual core processor and plays Youtube videos faster than our laptop on our home internet. I charge mine every day and have noticed that if I charge it when the phone is off, it seems to hold it's charge longer than if I charge it while it's on. It's a sweet little phone and I've been happy with my choice so far. I've been amazed at how fast it works and all the things it can do and I know I'm just scratching the surface.

A coworker recently picked up a 16GB iPhone through Verizon and she's been pretty happy with it as well. One thing I don't like about the iPhone is that it doesn't have the removable memory like the Android phones.

Personally, I'm an iPhone fan. I have a 32gb 3GS right now, but will be upgrading in a month or so when the new one is released. There really isn't much it can't do. Flash is always the big argument but having both an iPhone and an iPad it really hasn't been as big of a big deal as I thought it would be.

I've had blackberrys and now the Iphone and I won't go back to blackberry for a personal phone. personal preference, but the iphone is a MAC item which says a lot.
