wtnhunt
Here is a ballistic table that may be somewhat helpful to you http://www.hornady.com/assets/files/ballistics/english-ballistics-chart-2010.pdf. Have not seen any trajectories for the 500, remington ballistics table shows data for the 44 mag with trajectory.
Jeramie
Personally, if it were me looking for a pistol cartridge to deer hunt with I would consider the 357 Mag. They are cheaper to shoot, carry plenty of energy, and you can shoot .38spcl rounds through them in the off season for fun....
hungry hunter
Don't know much about 500, but I did order a .44 mag barrel for my NEF for hunting in Indiana this year. Plenty of power and knockdown for deer at 100 yards.
Hoosierbuck
I have an Encore in .500 Smith, and a Winchester 94 in .44 Mag. I like them both, and there is no denying that the .500 flattens deer, but the .44 goes hunting with me much more often. Love that lever with a straight 4x Leupold. I often shoot 2-3 deer at a time with it. HB
brad dryden
I was leaning towards the .44mag but wasnt sure on the distances for the .500 and how good of a gun they are. Shooting the 12ga and having a shoulder injury last year has got me thinking of down grading to a gun with a little less recoil. These are the 2 guns that im looking at so far. Hoosierbuck
If you want less recoil than a 12 gauge...I would avoid the .500. Seriously. HB
Crappiepro
I do know my buddy has a 500 S&W in a single shot. The hornaday loads were $63 abox of 20, that may be something to consider LOL.
brad dryden
I have shot the 500 and the recoil was not that bad. BUT I do remimber the shells being high when my brother had the gun.
Jeramie
That would definately be a reason to get into realoading or find someone to reload for them.
