WaCoyote
The weather here has been phenominal, warm, and dry for the last month and a half. So apparently the birds are already completely fired up. With the season over a month away are we in trouble? I've heard that this is the best scenareo as the hens will all be serviced and nesting, therefor the Toms will be eager.Being the eternal optimist, this is the school of thought I subscribe to. The other is that the birds will be done by the time we get after them and wont come to calls. The only hope is sitting and waiting for an ambuse. What do you think?? HeviShot
Re: Is this good or bad? I would think the same thing. You will probably get a few more days of cooler weather. They tried to warm up here last weekend heard some gobbler's.Yesterday it was 25 and it cooled them of a little. PAbowhunter4life
Re: Is this good or bad? We go through this every year in PA. The peek of our breeding season is long gone by the time out season opens up at the end of May. Heck, they're pretty much switching in to hardcore breeding right now. When the season opens up you will still have plenty of birds looking for love and there are plenty that will still answer your calls. However, there are just as many that won't show any interest in breeding at all. In my opinion, it's all up to the turkey, they all have different personalities. Next month 70% of the gobblers in our state may be sick of hunting down hens, but the other 30% may want nothing more. Hope this helps! PAbowhunter4life
Re: Is this good or bad? I agree 100% bud, cause I've done it lol. I have found that when the birds get stubborn and are all "loved" out, they LOVE very soft purrs as opposed to loud aggressive yelps & cuts.
