HarvDog
So, I'm finally ready to retire my old percussion cap sidelock smokepole and upgrade to a 209 primer. I will want something in 50 cal with a removeable breechplug. I have only done some quick looking at a few TCs and a Traditions Vortek. Any others I should consider or stay away from? dbHunterNY
I've checked out a lot. Some from CVA, Traditions, and T/C. The Traditions Vortek Ultra Light is pretty nice and a good value. I don't think you've got any restrictions on muzzleloaders, but I'm not sure. If you got plenty of guns then that Vortek or the T/C Triumph Bone Collector is nice. Otherwise, a T/C Encore Prohunter XT is sweet. You can get barrels cheaper than complete guns to save you money. I should've gotten my Prohunter before I accquired all my guns. My Prohunter shoots sub MOA at 100 yards which is crazy to me, thinking about everything I've learned not to do with centerfire rifles and rifle accuracy. They all offer up the same stuff, you've just got to decide how much you want to spend and what features you want.
wtnhunt
Welcome back. Done a little checking into newer ml'ers here lately too. From what I am reading some of the stainless barrels really are not stainless or are a poor quality. Something you may want to consider if that is an issue you are factoring into your decision. Since it is not uncommon to leave our ml'er loaded for more than a week and sometimes hunt in the rain and not always get the opportunity to break down the gun and clean it between each hunt that is somewhat of a factor. I have always been a TC fan and likely what our next ml'er would be, but supposedly cva stainless barrels are a better quality stainless than some of the others on the market and kinda got me doing a bit more checking into them. Lot of options out there that may be important to you.
MichiganHunter
I love my pro hunter, the ability to change to a rifle if I ever do an elk hunt. I can shoot 200g with 100g of 777 pellets/2 pellets and a 200g shock wave. I am set 2" high at 100 and 6"-7" low at 200yds. it's a great gun. But good luck with what ever you get. Greymule
I've never had any problems with my Thompson Center.
