Rhino
While bowhunting in Africa I took a lot of pics from various blinds over a 10 day hunt. Here's some of my favorites of the different African species I saw while hunting. Gemsbuck...We saw more of these than any other game animal. A mix of Zebra & Blue Wildebeest with the backside of a couple of Warthogs at a big, natural waterhole. Zebra...they preferred to walk out into the middle of a water hole like this for the cleaner water...other animals didn't seem to care. Kudu...This was the only bull that came in close to a blind. This one needed to grow some more. The one I bagged was stalked in cover. Here's a few young cows & calfs Waterbuck...These bulls came in on the last day. I had already bagged a trophy so they were just shot with the camera. One is very nice! Inside 20 yards here Cow & calf Eland...I never saw any BIG bulls from a blind just cows & young bulls. Note here the feeder they made out of a tire to judge their size. The one at the feeder is 22 yards. Now the closest at ~15 yards Giraffe...while we were at the blind by the tire feeder & natural water hole this bull came in. He's ~25 yards. I was glad he didn't walk through the blind. The cow that was with him off to the right of the blind I enjoyed it more when the bull was at ~100 yards Black Wildebeest (center)...These weren't on my hit list untill I saw this one. He never got close enough but several days later one did & I blew my only chance at a nice bull. They are referred to as the cheap mans cape buffalo. Blue Wildebeest...These weren't on my hit list. I had several opportunities at bulls up close. Like the one in the 1st pic that's at ~15 yards. They usually traveled in herds. Red Hartebeest...this was the only pic I got of one up close. Not a shooter. I saw some shooters & they are nice. I may have to go for one next time. BTW...I couldn't help but thing...why such a long face...smile for the camera. Springbuck...pretty animals...at the 12 yard line here A herd at a natural water hole Stripped Mongoose...a snake has no chance if a family of these finds him. This was about half the family that showed up. Lastly the Warthog...The only big tuskers I saw like this one had one side broken off. He's just inside 25 yards. Rhino
Great pics Al! I can't imagine that Giraffe that close........WOW You should have been there! A few minutes later the cow eased in to drink at 15 yards while he watched over her from that spot. I wasn't brave enough to risk moving to take still shot pics but my PH had my video camera rolling. Sounded like a vacuum cleaner sucking up water. He never drank...just the cow. VERY COOL!!! Other animals won't get close to them like they do with each other. Wonder way? Leo
Very nice pictures! You did right passing on the Eland. Those are really young bulls. You might start to regret passing that blue wildebeast. That's a pretty nice bull.

Blue Wildebeest have a face only their mother could love! One day a herd of Blue Wildebeest came changing in. The bull stopped & rolled around in the dust at 22 yards (ranged him) while the others walked into the water hole to drink. Very cool experience watching him rolling around in the dirt like a dog. Yeah I know, Blue Wildebeest fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down. LOL! Not the best shoulder mount specimen for certain. They do however make gorgeous European mounts. Even better if you get Jana Waller to paint it up for you later. If I ever get a Blue Wildebeest that is probably what I will do.
