Shaun... having only one shot is the atraction the a single shot. It makes you wait for the ideal shot, and will make you think twice before taking a low percentage shot. I think thats the beauty of it!

I personally have never needed more than 1 shot to put a deer down. I am very particular about my shots. I did need a second shot on a deer I necked, but he dropped in his tracks. I still question myself for taking that shot.

I think a single shot will defiantely make a hunter make better shot choices for the most part.

Re: Single Shots...

What I like is hearing the boys with their 5 shot automatics ripping up the hillside just as fast as they can pull that trigger. What do I like about that?.......The fact that I am no where near them. grin.gif

shooting at a running deer??????.... shocked.gif

The same year I spent about 3 days shooting at tires rolling down hills. Try that, for practice some time! Do you know you have to lead a running deer @ 75 yards... by over 12 feet (if you shoot a sabot that is 1500fps). Indeed, I don't typically shoot at running deer w/ a shotgun, but this occasion, I thought was appropriate.

Re: Single Shots...

I would hunt deer with a single shot rifle if I owned one. I think it might make me a better hunter by knowing that that one shot would require increased skill in distance estimation, shot placement, and basic shooting skills. I have a single shot shotgun I use for squirrels and I know that when pursuing tree rats it's made me get a little closer, be a little quieter, and aim much more carefully.

Well said Goat!!!

I have found a few instances where a running shot was appropriate myself....those deer died and the grilled up just fine!!!

I have yet to find any deer that is standing still and broadside, with a target painted on them like at the rifle range....where are people finding these deer smirk.gif

Sure..."Broadside or Quartering Away...while standing completely still" thats the "Prefferred Shot Angle and Situation"....does it happen all the time in the woods...no.

I did find that kind of deer once....I was shooting a decoy smirk.gif

Dont knock it unless you shoot one brother.

Actually, I do use them. I have a T/C Encore, 3 H&R/NEF Handi Rifles, a Rem 40X BBR (single shot bolt), and a few muzzleloaders. So I have quite a bit of actual first hand knowledge of single shot guns. I don't bash the use of single shots or any of the single shot guns. I feel more people should shoot them, there would be fewer wounded deer, after the season. cool.gif
