mastr001 Posted August 21, 2011 Report Share Posted August 21, 2011 The land i can hunt is 70 acres, 30 field "planted in wheat 4 to 5 years ago" and 40 in woods. Some of the woods i cant hunt b/c its right next to a neighborhood which the owner doesnt want me to hunt. But the yellow dot is where i shot my first deer " 8 point" last year and when i was first able to hunt the land last year it was mid oct and there was alot of rubs in this location. I have also got good bucks on camera this year and last. I have posted them on the forum before if you wanted to check them out. There is a ten point i got pictures of within the last month. The blue line is a small small creek and from the field to the creek it about 50 degrees sloping toward the creek. Its also atleast 400 to 600 yards from the field to creek. The owners house usually has some type of garden in the back yard. Also the north side of the pond there is some really thick woods that used to be a small field that is all grown up and hasnt been touched in 10 years. I have seeen alot of deer from from that section and cross the field. if anyone can make sence of this let me know where you would put some stands. I posted two pictures one it looks like spring/summer and the other is fall/winter so you can get an idea of where thick cover is and where oak trees are. dbHunterNY Posted August 22, 2011 Report Share Posted August 22, 2011 (edited) your pictures are small to the point where it's pretty hard to see the details you're seeing. A couple things to look for with the creek; if there's any lower ditch like saddles going toward the creek and point where the 50 degree slope meets the creek. Also any spots that look like a deer trail that goes around the edge of the thick wooded area, on the downwind side. If there is a trail like that and it's running along a ridge, thermals would bring air up the ridge. bucks will cruise it to scent check does that may be bedded in the thick area. other than that it's hard to tell what's what in the pictures to give more suggestions. dbHunterNY Posted August 25, 2011 Report Share Posted August 25, 2011 where you've got a stand is an edge between hardwoods and evergreens it looks like which would be a good spot. i can only think of two more by just looking at the pictures. another would be the east (or downwind) side of where deer cut across a portion of the large field if it's grown up taller to provide some cover. another idea is across the creek from where you are now. it would be at the edge of the hardwoods again, but on the pond side. you probably get trails leading from that narrow section of woods behind the neighborhood into those hardwoods. That spot next to the land on the west side is super thick and saw alot of deer come from that area last year so i figured its the bedding area. Also i figured some will walk around the field to get to the oaks. I hope to cut them off, just trying to figure out if it will be a better morning stand or evening.
