Man what a weekend

Just spent 3 days on the lake with the girls for their 12th b'day. Had about ten 11/12 year old girls with us all weekend long. Spent all the time skiing, a little fishing, grilling and swimming. Things were going great till I hit a stump and shattered the outdrive.

Luckily had some friends out to tow me the mile or so back to the cabin. Did get to dig a little and found a nice big two blade broadhead, circa 5000 B.C.

Funny thing is, the little island I was walking around looking in the water had a surprise. Heard a crashing noise, then a few minutes later a deer started blowing at me. Funny, she's on a one acre island in the middle of the lake in town. Wild!

If you owned an Evinrude the stump would be the one in need of repair......

Neat broadhead. We can't "hunt" them here.......the government would rather them stay in the mud than be on display at one's home.

Is that a county rule Corey? When I was in West Texas a few years ago... I was encouraged by the 40,000 acre land owner to look for arrowheads to take back home. Hmmm...

Sorry for a bit of hijack John.

Sorry, should have clarified. It is illegal on government/state owned land. The lake I live 5 miles from is government owned and is slap full of artifacts. If you are caught with them in your possession on government land, its an automatic $500+ fine, get caught digging the ground up and your looking at federal charges. Private owned is totally legal.

I'd like to get into artifact hunting but don't own enough land and don't know anyone who does.

Major bummer about the outdrive John...that's going to hurt your hip! 2 cool discoveries though. Glad you were able to put the bad news behind you and enjoy the outing.

With the number of civil war relic hunters out there now I'm not sure what the rules are for artifact hunting anymore. I know part of the process for drilling oil & gas exploration wells on BLM lands requires a drill site evaluation/survey before moving any dirt. We had to hire people to check the site for arrow heads, etc. There was one site I recall back in the early 90's that uncovered what must have been an ancient indian village of some kind. The archeologist took over that area and about 6 months later we we were finally informed that an alternate drilling location had to be selected. Not sure how long the archeologist worked that site.

400 bucks on a used upper assembly from ebay, hopefully I'll get out with just that (there went my stash for a new bow this year!) Oh well. I've never found but just one civil war artifact, the hilt of a sword, and about 6 inches of blade while we were plowing next to Tombigbee years ago. Would like to go sometimes, but have enough hobbies that go underfunded and unattended to as it is, lol.
