Sunday afternoon was cutting peppers from the garden for homemade salsa. I always wear gloves when cutting the cayenne and jalapeno peppers, learned quick the first time I made the stuff that they will burn your hands if you don't. Wife made the mistake of not listening to me when she helped cut peppers a couple years ago, her hands were on fire for a couple days. Having made salsa for several years now never really thought about needing to wear glasses or safety glasses, that is until it was too late Sunday afternoon when I took a direct hit in my right eye from the juice and a pepper seed from a very ripe cayenne that shot up from the cutting board when I was chopping.

Incredible how quick and just how much heat and discomfort a little juice from a pepper can create. Yikes, now I see why pepper spray is so effective as a repellant, suppose I was lucky the juice did not get both eyes because I had all I could do to stumble my way into the bathroom. Spent over 35 minutes in the shower flushing my eye and still was burning some when it got where it was to a tolerable point.

Kind of funny now looking back, but taught me a valuable lesson to wear some form of eye protection when cutting hot peppers.
