LETMGROW
We planted our last plots of the season yesterday. 1/2 acre of W.I. Forage Oats and 1 acre of winter wheat. We also threw in some brassica seed we had lying around. We also top dressed a 1/4 acre of clover with 220# of 8-26-18 fertilizer. We cleaned the spreader and seeders for winter storage. Getting some [ alot really ] rain today from the edge of the hurricane which should help all our plantings. Now we can sit back a little and watch the plots grow. Next up, get the trail cams up and going. Check stands etc. Looking forward to a great season. NBomb500
Good to hear! It's fun getting outdoors and working in the dirt!!! Wish we got to do that hear, but liberal Montana outlawed food plots/baiting a couple years ago. A relative of mine works for the fish and game and told me the reason for it and I just had to laugh. What a bunch of stinkin liberals. Just jokin. I guess in my head when I think of Montana I don't think of a lot of restrictions on anything....not the case anymore. I guess from the sounds of it they didn't like people shooting deer out of season. And by baiting them. Really!?! Does that do any good. Nope Oh wells...hope you enjoy puttin your plots in! dbHunterNY
Soods good Lynn! any food plots of mine are existing ag fields. i went with a different approach this year. i planted oats and winter rye during spring which is already grown in to provide more cover for the deer. I've setup 17 stand and blind locations throughout five different hunting areas. i only have a couple cameras though so the scouting is a little slow. i'll care more about what i see in mid september though as some deer come and go around then. i think i need more cameras though. only being free weekends, i need all the help scouting that i can get. ...hope they produce and good luck! MUDRUNNER
Good deal! It's always nice to get the plots done and change your focus towards getting things ready for the season. I got my plot in on Sunday, now just praying for rain. It's been extremely dry here the last two months. We had a 40% chance yesterday and never seen a drop...next chance is over the weekend. LETMGROW
Got out tonight for a couple minutes and checked on last Saturday's planting. A few little shoots appearing [ probably weeds ] and the rest looks like a desert. Didn't expect much but had to look. The other plots are really going strong. Brassicas planted last of July are coming along nicely. My 10 acre corn patch is tasseling and earing out. This was a late planting I'm planning to leave for the winter. I have corn on land I lease out over 12' tall. I swear this farmer could grow crops on a city sidewalk. Clover is great! Spent quite a bit on fertilizer [ 6-26-18 ] to give it a little boost. I have a bumper crop of apples this year. In some cases too many. I'm shaking trees and pulling apples off limbs so limbs won't break. We are preparing for our QDMA banquet Sept. 10 and that will slow down field visits a bit. Can't fool Mother Nature anyway so I will get what I get from here on out. Weather outlook is for rain Thurs., Sat., Sun. and maybe Mon. Good for plots but not so good for a long weekend break. Lynn
