Knee Surgery in my future

Just got my results of my MRI back from the Orthopedic Surgeon and the determination is a Type 3 tear in the cartilage of my left knee. Will require surgery in April to repair the damage. The good news is, it is done arthroscopically and the turn around time is a couple weeks! Look for some heavy duty active posting from me then boys! (and girls)!

I am mostly excited about the fact that this surgery has very high patient satisfaction and totally alleviates the pain I have been suffering for the last couple of months. My wife says I am too rough on my body with the activities I engage in (most of you know what they are) for my age (36), and she wishes I would take it easier. I think that if I stop what I am doing, I will get fat and lazy and not have as much energy.

I may just have to slooooowwwwwwwww down a wee bit maybe! blush.gifgrin.gifmaybe

Re: Knee Surgery in my future

I got mine done and I could tell a great difference the very next day. Just make sure that you listen to the doc, stay off you feet for a while, use your crutches and don't lift anything for a while. I didn't listen and I believe that I am going to have to have it done again. It only took about an hour and I couldn't be happier with the results.

Good luck!

Re: Knee Surgery in my future

My best friend had both knees done last summer. He's very pleased. I'm putting my right knee off until after turkey season is over. It's been a problem for me for a while but got a lot worse during this past deer season. I can deal with it until turkey season is over though.

Re: Knee Surgery in my future

I've had a few pals have that surgery Ken.

My prediction: You'll be up and around in 3 days. Docs always go on the long side of rehab. After my first chest surgery they told me I'd be out of work for at least 3 weeks, but more like a month or so. I went back to work after a week and a half.

Given the shape you're in, I'm betting you'll be fine.

BTW--don't give up that hobby, and don't listen to your wife. You may end up ballooning like I did when I gave up all my physical activities. frown.gif

Re: Knee Surgery in my future

Thanks everyone... I realize that the doctors do go on the long side with the recovery times, but given I have way more sick time than is normal with this much time on the job, I am going to take it easy and burn a few days to make sure I don't re-injure it to soon. grin.gif

you'll be back in no time--best of luck with the surgery. Wives always want us giving up our hobbies to have more time for the "Honey Do's".

Hey Todd, could you do the surgery and save me a couple bucks?? I could spend the time recovering in OK. and my therapy could be hunting with ya!

Re: Knee Surgery in my future

I've had it done and it isn't all the bad! Recovery is quick and it sure makes life a lot better!

Now if it were a total knee replacement, which I have had done, then that is a different story!

Good luck and don't wait!

Re: Knee Surgery in my future

I also have had a knee worked on. They removed about 20% of the cartilage in my left knee. I was able to put weight on it the next day and was walking without crutches within a week and a half.

You'll be amazed how much better you'll feel after having it done. Good luck!!
