Congrats on the 8.

I agree with Cory. That other buck's dead out there somewhere. I've never shot those sabots but if I were you, I'd sure consider changing to another one. I have shot some in the old days that just wouldn't properly expand. The ones I really liked were Barnes 250 gr. sabots. Never had a problem with them and always left a good blood trail from a good hit.

Well guys that score board is looking like it is getting close....Anyone wanna come up to my place for the last weekend of muzzle loader, this weekend. I'll guarantee a doe, and a good chance at a buck???? I am only an hour north of Green Bay, WI. LOL!

But seriously guys good luck for those who have a season left. Get er did!

Right now it's looking like Rhino is in the lead for the knife.

Mike...when jm23494 post his required pics in the entry thread we'll have 13 more points to add to the team. That will put some distance between us and the 2nd place team.

Our rut is just starting to crank up here in MS. If there's a buck out there with more than 12 points on his head I haven't gotten TC pics of him. My close friends that run cams haven't either. It's fixing to get fun here though.

Guys, I hear ya. I was out this past weekend and hunted late morning to dusk and saw only one doe late Sunday night. I didn't have a shot at her. She was within shooting distance but was in line of a farmers house and his property and once she walked past the property, she was too far. I was limited to my ground blind this weekend. I tried to get up in one of my ladder stands, but the knee said no way.

Our ML season starts Friday, and I will be able to hunt my other stands. I will be keeping my fingers crossed. Mike, nice buck and sounds like you have a great place up there. You see more deer in one night than I see all season.

I planted an acre and a half of clover, and wild game mix in August and it looks great and I see where they are eating, but I have yet to physically see deer in it. I am guessing they are there in the evenings. Good luck to all and I will try and get some points up. Wade

Hey guys! Sorry for only getting to check in once in a while but lifes just busy for me this fall. Been seeing quite a few deer, unfortunately haven't been able to connect with the bow yet. Going to hit it hard this weekend for gun season, should get something down I would hope.

Good luck Mike and everyone else. I'm all packed up, called in a vacation day for tomorrow and headed up to the Canadian border first thing in the morning. Should hopefully get up there in time for an evening hunt. Been getting some new bucks on camera this past week so hopefully something shows up. I'm really hoping for a nice fat doe.

Nothing new to report here except deer were mainly on the night shift according to my trail cams. Didn't see a deer Friday or Saturday morning. Hunted a shooting house with my son on a field Saturday afternoon & saw 8 does & fawns. Just saw a young buck Sunday morning. I'll probably hit the woods again Friday & hunt through Sunday morning. We are getting closer to our best rutting activity down here now. Could break loose any time!

My season is over.

:bummed: I hate it when that happens.

Our main rut is over, there's still a few hot does left but it's all winding down. Haven't seen a deer on my place all season. It's rough.....almost ready just to give it up and start getting my fishing gear out and preped for spring. I'm not renewing the lease on this property next year. Gonna find something else, the past 5 years and only a few deer taken is not worth the money.

My season is over. Good luck the rest of the team. I was hoping to be able to upgrade but it didnt happen.

You sure had a memorable season though Ben.

Like I said in my other post, our peak rut period is just around the corner. My #1 goal right now is putting my young buddy who's helped me with hanging and prepping stands, in front of a good buck. Based on what that main frame 11 or 12 did last year (TC pic on previous page) I set a cam and caught him moving through the same trail system twice last week. He appears to be on the same survival pattern he used last year. Sunday we set the 2nd stand so he now can hunt that buck at that pinch point with N & S winds along with another 9 point we caught passing through there this past week. Here's a couple of TC pics of the 9.

Whichever one shows up 1st will be in trouble! I hope I have some happy hunter kill pics of my young buddy with one of those bucks soon. BTW...after we finished setting the 2nd stand (both are mine) I told him I was banning myself from hunting there. He and my son would be the only ones allowed to hunt them. Why? Cuz I couldn't resist killing the bigger of the 2 using that pinch if I was there. Maybe both! He's neve killed a nice buck and is long overdue for one.

  • 2 weeks later...

went out tonight and got a doe with the bow. Just started to snow. Broad side at 15 yards she went about 60 yards. And burried herself in a hole. I'll post some pics a little later. Won't help the score board but still a good night.

The score board is getting tighter. Team six is with in 4 points right now......Gonna be a close one I think.

Nothing much new here. We're supposed to be closing in fast on the chase phase of our rut but you sure wouldn't know it based on my recent outings in a tree. Over my past 4 hunts in the timber I haven't even seen a deer. Same sort of reports from my friends. Weather has been right for the most part. Trail cams confirm they just aren't into it yet either. Anyway...I'll be hitting the woods all next week, which is usually some of the best rutting activity in my neck of the woods.

Here are some pics of my hunt on Friday night. It started to snow around 2:15. I got to my hunting property around 3:00. Got dressed and grabbed my bow. I decided to hunt my tent blind. I haven't been seeing much from there since I put it up in October. But with the fresh snow I decided to give it a try. I walked out the back door to head to the blind and had to bust several deer off the cut corn to get on stand. They were out early with this snow. Should be a good hunt. I got out opened the blind up sat down and grabbed my bow. I didn't even get a chance to put an arrow on my string when the first group of does walked thru at 15 yards broad side. I sat for about another 20 minutes and then decided to put my outer wear on to fight the cold. I put my right arm into my jacket when I caught movement coming out of the thick stuff at about 18 yards. Big doe. I grabbed my bow, one arm in my jacket one out. OH Well. She walked into about 15 yards. She stopped at 18. THWACK! Sounded like I smacked a plastic tarp. She took off I found her in a hole about 60 yards later. Pass thru about 3 inches higher than I wanted, but did the job. Then the fun started pulling her out of the cedar swamp. Season is over now with the exception of pulling in my stands.... :(

Been a while since I was able to check in. Why? Cuz I've been in the woods since the day after Christmas. Came home yesterday afternoon. Weird rut this year for us. Saw more chasing after lockdown than I did before. Saw some nice 8 points and a 9 but opted to pass & send some younger hunters to my stands that hadn't killed yet. Unfortunately the right buck didn't come by while they were hunting them. Time for me to catch up at home now.

Seems like we've been stuck on 82 points forever. Wasn't there someone who still needed to post pics from a buck they killed?

jm23494 killed an 8 point a while back but hasn't posted his pics yet. When his buck is posted we'll be a 95 points

Well fellas this will be my last post in our team thread....got my son with me on a youth hunt this morning. I could have brought the ML'er and hunted as well but opted not to as I want to focus on getting him a deer.

It was a great season overall, not much went on here at home but I got to spend time with my son doing something we both enjoy.

Pleasure being on a team with you guys!
