Rhino
Our weather here was great for this time of the year in MS from this past Wednesday through Saturday. Lows ranged from 50 Thursday to the mid 50's Saturday with highs ranging from the low 70's Thursday to the low 80's Saturday. Couldn't ask for better pre-season weather to hang stands & trim a little...especially for an old fart like me! It's warmed up again though, just like it has for Cory. mikewink
The DNR stopped by the house today. They told me they have seen a cougar 3 times in the last 2 days coming off of my property. They took me out and showed me the area. The sightings were with in a couple hundred yards of my two favorite stands. Should make for an interesting hunting season. I wonder if I'm going to be the one getting hunted this season??? :2guns:
c_lou
The start of another season. Saturday morning is suppose to nice and cold. Hoping to see some deer and get a whack at a decent one I've seen a few times. Now just to decide: corn, beans, or acorns? Did I hear an Acorns?!? Good Luck team. jm23494
Was able to get out and shoot my bow some more last night. Stretched it out to 50 yards and was grouping pretty good. Season doesn't open until Oct. 1 and I still have a few more stands to get up. Good luck to everyone that is out so far.
Slash
48 hours and counting here. There was a cougar caught on a video trail camera here in the U.P. this past week. It shows a collar on it but the DNR says they don't know where it came from LOL Here's the link to the video: http://www.uppermichiganssource.com/news/story.aspx?id=662696 Another post on here about Ashley's cat being attacked by a cougar: http://www.realtree.com/forums/lounge/98761-bobcat-lynx-attack-prayers-needed-much-appreciated.html
Rhino
Hope the cougar hasn't caused most of the deer to move out of the area Mike. I recall seeing Wyoming hunts on Drury's videos...Mark killed a nice 8 point seeing lots of deer one year...the following season they saw zip from the same tree. Confused they then ID'd cougar sign, a kill site, & got video footage of a cougar passing through the area from another stand set. They had to relocate to a different area to deer hunt. Heading out around lunch today so I can go check and move some trail cams. Starting Friday morning I'll be on a tractor cutting small fields & ATV roads. See y'all Sunday night or Monday. c_lou
Can you hunt them all at once? Perhaps with a .300, but that shot might get noticed.

A month ago I found a place loaded with deer and a nice herd of Elk. Marked it on the GPs, went back the next weekend to check on all of them since season was coming. That weekend I saw a cougar in the exact spot as the elk, 2 bears and a wolf within a mile radius. Did not see a single deer or elk and havent since then. Cougars will drive the game away BUT I have also experienced cougars not driving game away as well. On one of my hunting partners cam we have pics of deer all week, then a cougar on Sunday and the following week all the same deer showed up. So, who knows what will happen there. I would kill that thing if you see him, period.
gzilla45
It was so nice out yesterday I took a drive after work to check my trail cams. Mostly does and a couple of small bucks but also got a nice pic of a 10 pointer that I would really love to get a shot at. Bar none it would be my biggest deer to date. I have 5 days next week to bear/deer hunt and I absolutely can't wait. Good luck to everyone getting out this weekend.
mike
Hey Team! Sorry I haven't contributed much yet! Work has had me swamped lately. Should be slowing up a bit and getting back down to atleast a 40 hour week now so maybe I can be on here a bit more! lol
WGumz
Any luck this weekend for any of you?? The weather is great here right now, so hopefully it stays this way coming into October. Nothing on either of my trailcams but does and two small 6 points. These cameras are in my backyard. I have two other areas that I hunt that I have yet to place the cameras in, but I am planning on it this next week. Best of luck to those of you in the upcoming week. I will check in periodically through the week. Wade
Dawg
We got rained on!! Rained off and on Saturday, Sunday and eary this morning. Temps are back and forth. Lows are reaching into the upper 60's and highs are high 80's/low 90's. Still a bit muggy. It's gonna have to cool off a bit more than that for me to climb a tree. 92xj
No luck for me this weekend. I actually flew to Colorado Friday and drove back to here Saturday and Sunday. Going through wyoming and montana I saw a TON of antelope and deer which made me excited for my hunt next week. I might try and get out tomorrow night around the house on some public land for a close to home muley.
Rhino
Well I spent the last 3 days (till 1:00) on a tractor cutting fields and ATV roads at our camp. Relaxed playing some afternoon golf twice though. Checked my 4 cams but no mature buck pics on this last run. Best buck this week was this 3.5 year old 9pt. in front of a stand I hung a couple of weeks ago. He'll get a pass from me...hope he has a chance to grow up and show is potential. The cam where I got the nice buck on the previous run seems to have ID'd where the pigs come from around there. It was set to cover the NE end area...now it's in front of the stand on the opposite side where the other pics taken. I hope to see how close they were hugging that side last time. mikewink
Hey guys, Sorry for not being around lately. Work and bass tourneys have had me busy. Went out to the property on Saturday. Cut and split some wood, did a walk thru the woods. This just isn't my year I think. Found a tree stand on the property that doesn't belong to me. Walked back to my rifle blind only to find someone bear baiting, with in 50 yards. Lock was cut off of my blind too.... I didn't see any cougars which is good. LOL! Found the neighbors responsible for the bear bait and the tree stand. Gave them 2 days to get the stuff cleaned up and off the property. Their reason.....we haven't seen you around much this year we didn't think you were going to be hunting......still didn't get the cameras up...... mike
Hey gang! Just grabbing a quick bite to eat and catching up on here. I finally have some time and got a hold of the guy that owns the new timber I got permission to hunt this year! Going out tomorrow night to check it out and find the property lines with him. Its about an 80 acre parcel of timber with a big pond. The dam of the pond is a huge natural funnel between to larger timbers. Well I guess back to my salad and cold piece of chicken lol. Then back to work!
