I hate to hear that. Didnt go today, daughter had surgery, dont go back to work till Tuesday, and I'm anxious to shoot or stick something. Hope your 8 comes back to see you Martin.

Tracey rut here is wide open now, chase is on. About mid-Jan most will start settling back down and hitting food plots to feed. Last few years I've had my best shots at big bucks on the last of January.

No way I'm not posting a doe. I thought I had to work today, I forgot we took today for the first. Hunted in the stand a total of 7 hours today and saw one yearling doe. Wind kicked all day 30-40mph at 40F. Coldest i been all year. Didn't dress for it. On another note, my buddy saw my christmas buck limping hard just out of bow range. We can rifle hunt in MS till the 31st, but a few of us are tuffin it out. I promise I'll post a doe by one weapon or another. I really blew it Christmas day.

Checked one cam this morning. We've got pics of this deer for 2 years, he's a shooter, just a shame so many of our deer in this part of the state seem to top out at this level, though there have been some 190 class deer taken this year in a 50 mile radius.

I put this camera on a trail going into the field where I shot my Christmas buck in hopes of at least getting a good look at "limpy" as we're calling him now thanks to my fine marksmanship :hammer1:

You can guess where I just hung a lock-on though, lol.

Got a clean shot at a little staging area where 2 trails lead into the food plot, plus a decent shot at a small section of the "L" shaped patch where they like to come in. If I can't shoot this deer or limpy, I still have 2 does left to take this year and I plan on getting them!

got to full draw on an 8 pt tonight at last light..but he was very nervous and stiff legged off, so I held off

didnt have a choice red..even with fleece..and it was dead calm...just the hint of any strange noise sets these deer off in late season..was not going to risk a shot and have him jump the string and possibly wound him

I hope you get one more look at him.

I didnt go at all today, temps hitting 75 today, and I'm trying to finish this kitchen. Hopefully it will cool back down this week. Rut should be going to crap now esp with the heat, hope to catch them going back into feeding mode and head them off going to the food plots.
