VABuckSlayer
BuckNrut, there is a film crew shooting a movie at my club right now too. They won't be done until the end of October. Going to have to hunt around them. LOL Got 2 small food plots in behind the house last week. Oats are starting to come up good and we just got a good rain last night. First time I've tried oats so hopefully they will come to it. Mixed in some alfalfa as well. If this works I will plant a bigger field in it next year. Taking my son hunting Saturday for Youth season. Then our bow opener is next Saturday. Can't wait!
rhine16
Heading home from school to hang a last minute tree stand or two tomorrow and plant my clover/oat plot. 9 days to go!
MCH
Will be in the deerstand this weekend! Can't wait. Weather is supposed to cool down just a notch, so it should be comfortable.
VABuckSlayer
We are going to have some cooler temps too. Opening day is Saturday. Can't wait to get this party started!
rhine16
Looks like a low around upper 40s and highs in mid 70s for opening weekend which is about as good as you can ask for around here.... i'm raring to go!
BuckNrut
Well as it turns out, both my son and I got to be "extras" in the film being shot at my hunting spot. Sammy "got shot" in the foot while I bring in a stretcher for another guy that gets shot. We filmed for 5 1/2 hours for a sceen that lasts about 2 minutes. Here is a pic of "GI Bucknrut". MCH
That's awesome BnR! Will have to let us know when it's released and if your scene made the cut! 4 more days!!
MCH
Checked my last camera tonight. I've got several does hitting my trophy rock. Should be a good area come the rut. On a bad note, they've started thinning the pine plantation where my honey hole is located. Which will help me come gun season, but will hurt me because it will allow fellow lease members who tend to spotlight, to overhunt my spot. BuckNrut
Nice cam pics MCH, but how come your camera reads "2010"?
rhine16
Probably my last check in until Monday or Tuesday unless I kill one over the weekend. Lord willing, I'll be in a tree in the morning waiting on daylight to crack. I haven't made decisions on any of my 4 spots for the weekend sits yet, so that will be gametime decisions. Good luck everyone!
MCH
Nice cam pics MCH, but how come your camera reads "2010"? User error. Never reset it from last year....just stuck batteries in it and hung it on a tree.LOL Can't wait for the morning. Will be in a tree watching the sun rise and hopefully following a blood trail not too long after.
MCH
Hunted for 3 1/2 hours this morning. No sightings but I'm pretty sure it was because of the wind. I hunted the Triangle stand due to the expected NE wind. Only problem was that once on stand, the wind decided to blow from the SW. At 7:15 a deer busted my to the NE and blew a few times and then left. Finally, at 9:00 a.m. the wind switched to the NE. A little too late, though. Still had a great morning sitting in my stand. Boy did I miss season.
BuckNrut
Changing winds can be a real challenge. Do you ever use the "hour-by-hour" link at weather.com? I've found that service to be fairly reliable. Actually, I plan my hunting around it.
BuckNrut
Well as it turns out, the filming crew will be extending activity into the first weekend of bow season. I figure on hunting the morning anyway if the wind is right. Sunday we did a scene in muddy, standing water in the trenches where lots of guys (myself included) get shot. Naturally I took time to build dykes and keep the water out of MY spot! It was the only spot in the trench that was water-free. One guy goes down face first in a large puddle! I've found that service to be fairly reliable. Actually, I plan my hunting around it. I plan every hunt by weather.com and wunderground.com. Weather.com was the website that showed NE all day Saturday. Enjoyed being in the woods this weekend, but I've got a bad feeling about this year. I might have to do some scrambling around. The mast crop isn't as good as last year and the deer aren't hitting them like last year. I think the drought is going to make it challenging for me this year. BuckNrut
I have a feeling Ruth will bag a 8-pointer with her bow this year!
rhine16
Saw 3 does and a spike on the Saturday morn sit. The does were 35-40 yards and I didn't like my possible shots so I passed. 1 doe on Saturday eve. Took an ill advised shot at 35 yards and missed. Nothing on Sunday morning. fly
We are on the board! Got his dry old doe tonight 30 minutes before dark at 10 yards. My summit open shot was 30 feet high - saw three, but they never saw me.
MCH
Swore I replied to this already??? Congratulations Fly!! Maybe you'll start a chain reaction! Hoping to contribute some points this weekend. I've got 3 days in the woods!
MCH
Saw my first deer of the year. A doe and two yearlings made their way about 80 yards past my stand. Weather is a little too hot right now. Once it cools down, the deer should start moving more.

rhine16
Congrats Fly! It's hot down here and with the full moon, the huntings tough. I'm keeping the pressure down for when the weather is right and the white oaks are dropping. Things should be looking up in the next week or so.
