Well I'm back from VA. I shot a doe Wednesday night. The deer were all sorts of jammed up with the weather. We really didn't see any bucks worth shooting although the trail cams showed they were there at night. I may be headed back down there before the seasons end. Our gun opener starts tomorrow and I'm headed upstate in a few hours.

All set for tomorrow's gun opener here in NY. Will be a little windy (13-15mph) but it's opening day so anything can happen. Fresh rubs on a large tree in my best shooting lane! Feeling positive about getting a decent shot opportunity... Also found my arrow (gold tips) from the deer I shot 2 weeks ago - all cleaned up and ready to go for the late archery season. Corn has been cut, but my field is not plowed under. The other fields are plowed under, if those deer want to feast on corn, they have to get past me first!

Had a good buck come in behind me and hit a tree. Tried grunting him in, but he wouldn't come past 80 yds. The buck walked off and was going directly towards my friend. I texted him that a big buck was coming towards him and what does he do???? Grabs his rattle bag and hits it! Needless to say, the buck was only 100 yds from him when he did and it scared the crap out of the buck. Thought he was going to run by me, but he didn't.

Congrats everyone on your deer! Just got home from the hunt camp last night, we ended up getting 5 deer, awesome week of hunting. Weather was unbelievable! Actually hit 60 degrees last Sunday, which is unheard of in this part of the country. Cooled off nicely by the end of the week with a bit of snow, 17 degrees yesterday morning. I never got anything, got shooting last Sunday at a doe at about 150 yards, she was on the trot right at the end of a chase, let the .300 WSM bark a couple times with no success, it happened so fast and I kind of rushed my shots, oh well! Got to see 2 people shoot their first deer this year so that was as exciting as getting one myself. Gonna try and get out with the bow between now and the 15th of December to try and get one.

Congratulations Kevin! We're climbing up there. Sorry about the Big -D USA. That can really mess up the hunting. I've got similar issues so I feel for ya. The Lord blessed me with a nice public ground 8-point buck this past weekend. His left G-2 was broke, but long enough to count. Pics and story in the Deer Hunting Room. I'll put one here too. If his left G-2 was the same length as his right he would have grossed just over 120 inches.

Nice buck Fly! I guess our team has its share of family issues. I've been dealing with a runaway teen last couple of weeks myself... Got a chance to get out for the opener. Things started slow, but there was none of the usual hunting pressure to the South. Around 11:30 had 2 does sneak in from the cut corn - never knew they were there. Took the first one at 12 yds w/ my 12 ga & she dropped in her tracks. Then around 2:00 a group of 2 mature does & 2 fawns came running in from 500 yds through the cut corn. The fawns came in first, saw my field-dressed deer and stopped. The big girls stayed back a bit. Finally one of them stepped out from behind a tree and stood broadside at 30 yds - dropped her in her tracks as well! Had a friend from church come over tonight to help grind and package over 125 Lbs of meat. 30 Lbs of backstrap too! We each had bambi burgers so big we could not finish them. Sent my friend home w/ 10 pkgs of assorted cuts plus a nice big rump roast.... This makes 4 deer for the year, and I still have 3 weeks and 2 tags (1 antler, 1 antlerless) left.

Thanks Fly. I have 2 out of 48 acres of woodlot to hunt in. You can see most of it in this shot. Still, it's all about the best 20 yards, and in the last 2 seasons I have taken 8 deer - and it's not even Thanksgiving weekend yet. Need to talk to the landowner about cutting a few trees. Some are leaning at 45 degree angles and would make som much needed bedding blowdowns. A little sunlight for undergrowth would be nice too. Otherwise, this spot is a deer's grand central station!

Good job Fly and Art on your deer kills!

I didn't see a good buck all week last week. Had a small 8pt that I let walk on Thursday and that's it. Passed several does. I'll wait a little later to take one out. Was really hoping to at least see a good one. Going to be tough from here on out. May shoot a doe out of frustration! LOL

A buddy of mine killed an awesome buck this past weekend. Had 21 scorable points. Could really use that for the team! I taped him at 169 3/8" gross B&C. Even had a droptine.

Congrats to everyone that has killed recently. I arrowed a doe last week over Thanksgiving break. Don't have great pics with the paper so I'm planning to wait to enter her into contest only if I don't upgrade. I have exams next week, so staying at school this weekend to study. Our rut doesn't usually heat up until Dec 15 or so, but hearing reports that they're moving pretty good. I'll be in a tree from the afternoon of Dec 9 through Jan 8 so hopefully I'll put a good buck down for us.

Didn't even venture into the woods last weekend. Going to make up for it this weekend. Taking off work tomorrow because I need to clean up a tree that fell on a corral. Won't start working until 10 or so, that will give me time to hunt a little. Plan on hunting the next three mornings and possibly and evening or two.

Even though its gun season here in Oklahoma, I ventured out with my bow this morning. I took my friend(rifle hunter) with me and stuck him 200 yards from me.

At about 9:00, two does and two yearlings made their way towards me. I stopped the biggest doe at 25 yards, quartering away and let her have it. She ran maybe 100 yards and piled up.

Good job Cutter! Nice buck man! Congrats to Rhine and Kevin on the slicks too!

I'm just not seeing the bucks. I could have shot a couple does and I probably will shoot one this weekend just to contribute to the team and my freezer. With all the reports I'm hearing I think we had a bad year for EHD. I'm hearing a lot of deer being found dead. Lot of people I've talked to said deer numbers and sightings are way down this year. Would explain why it's been a slow season so far.
