Congrats to everyone who has scored and to your son Randy. Ive been out a few times and passed lots of doe's and small bucks but yet to see a shooter. I usually don't fill any doe tags until the cold sets in for good so I'm not forced to butcher the deer right away. I will be off work next week so i will be hunting 2 or 3 days, hopefully it gets as cold as they say it will. I am so looking forward to sweet November. Good luck to everyone!

opening day of bow season is tomorrow for me. haven't gotten any shooter bucks on camera for 2 of the farms i'm hunting. a third farm i won't check until i'm headed to a stand in the evening to hunt there. i've got a handful of monster doe that are in their first year of drying out i think. if i see one of them i'll let an arrow fly. chance of rain tomorrow and then slightly better sunday. 50-60 for temps. it's raining now, but maybe i can get some shooting in tonight before the morning. i'll get my gear together too.

Randy- congrats man to you and Avery! What a slammer! We kick off in the morning here in NY. You guys complaining about 80 degree weather wanna trade me for some 50 degree, T-storms, and 60mph winds?? That's what our opener is shaping up to be. If I had someplace else to be, I'd make a point to be there but looks like I'll be flapping in the breeze like an old wet flag. We're finaly up Danno, have a safe one.

Good luck tomorrow guys! Should be a good morning out here. Still not as gold as i would like but better than last weekend.[/quote dave i have a really good feeling about saturday morning. cool temps no rain and little wind. best conditions in ohio so far. suggest getting in the stand a little early. i think first light is going to be smoking. i could be wrong. i made a mistake once back in the sixties.

it was a tuff opener. didn't see any bigger doe or bucks. slow morning except for the wind. my morning stand was swaying a bit. despite not raining this morning the high winds had the deer holed up and not moving. got out of the stand around 10:15am. went and got breakfast. at a camp down the road from the evening spot on a different farm. basically i was stuck their with some relatives who are hunters and waited out the rain. it finally looked like it let up and was stopping around 2:10am. so i got back in the stand soon after. no deer and then thunderstorms then rolled in around 4:30pm. it wasn't raining and it looked like they were going to miss my area so i stayed out despite the high winds, waiting for it to pass. well it passed but had another cluster of stormy clouds in tow. they ended up right over me. i elected to get down out of the stand, but before i made it out hail started pounding down. the hail then turned into a down pour! made it to my set of wheels and headed home completely soaked with an hour left of light. i've managed to get my bow dry and well, but now drying out the rest of my gear. i tried at least. i just couldn't not go out on opening day.

well team, seasons looking up for me, been able to hunt 7 days so far this season, and sat i got to lay a doe down, good news bad news..

the story. my $23.00 doe. i have a lock on 40 ft in a pine over looking a dry bare food plot ive been corning the plot but they dont seem to want to enter it during day light hours, so i put some corn to the right of my stand, in a small clearing yards from the food plot, sat morning i had 4 big does and a yearling come in to the corn i just placed out the following night. i had ranged a log from the stand thats 20 yards, so i knew the distance, with one bad shot and a miss this year, have you ever walked yourself threw the fundaments of bow hunting, i think i told myself every moev to make and when to make it.. ones heads up dont move, heads down get bow ect, after what seemed like 1/2 hour, i finley got up drawn and then say ancher point center pin ect, i settle the pin perfect, and shoot right over her, i almost threw the bow out the tree. went to the archrey shop during lunch time, bought a new arrow and a lumanock, $23.00 for all, and told him the story, he said range from the ground so i did 20yards turned into 14, so up the tree i went for the evening hunt about 5 the doe and the yearling came in, you could tell the doe was nerves, at 6.13 i finley got the shot. i smokerd her, got down and found the arrow but was broke, no vans no alumanck, as we cleanded her they poped out,the nock would not turn off and was shot, now the bad news as we were taking pics my disc got full before i got to the tag my buddy let me use his for the tagso i took the of the tags, right at this moment we cant remember what i did with my disc if the deer hopeful we can find it and i can get the team some points but hers a pic of the tag

WTG sskybnd! Congrats man, glad you finaly came out of your slump!

Yesterdays opener was rather uneventfull for me. Lots of wind and rain and wind and rain and more wind and rain. Tomorrows forecast looks much better, they're calling for rain with wind with a chance of high winds and heavy rain.

Up until yesterday cam pics have been few and far between. Things just beginning to pick up in my woods. Here's a few recent bucks from my hood.

Gave this little guy a pass this morning at 8 yds 1/2 hr after this pic.

sskybnd good job! good luck huntin' for the pictures. get us some points! hang in there wooly our opener was tough, but it just started.

had a ton of action sunday (yesterday), just nothing big enough. some old mature does came in at last light, but with work this morning i had to pass. it's a good spot that seems promising for the evenings with the prevailing west wind.

woolybear whats that hanging on that string?

Just a piece of mint flavor dental floss and a cottonball with some acorn scent on it for the early season. I like to hang it face level for them to check out so I get a few different angles of their racks when it works. It usually works pretty good so I set my cams up that way when I'm not in a hurry.

I had a group of three (Mother doe with yearling doe and buck) come in early and the big doe would not offer a shot. THe button buck was standing at the base of my ladder and never picked me off. There was a fourth deer following them but the big doe was smelling a wick i had out of special golden estrous and she took at with the group after that. Then about 100 yards off I saw a massive body walking in the brush but did not see the antlers. This deer had a huge belly on it! Around 11 i stood up and slung my crossbow over my should and was looking around thinkin about getting down as i had a birthday party for my friends boy at 2. Then i looked down and saw two does had snuck in on me. She caught me bringing the bow around but only trotted out to about 20 yards. She didnt go more than 20 yards from the time i shot and fell over where i could see her. Her final gift to me was running into a whole area full of sticker bushes.
