The weather is getting colder, and the deer are getting bigger. Went out back to check the camera, found this guy on there.

Biggest buck I have seen back there. Only thing now is to get him to show himself during the day, hopefully with the rut coming on he'll slip up.

Only about a week left until we head to the U.P. Decided to leave a day earlier than we planned and come home a day later, so we should have plenty of time in the woods. I am hoping this guy is still around, or at least one of this brothers or dad or grandpa :D

well team got us 8 more points today, hunting buddy killed a 7 point last night, helped him clean it and after that we talke till late, asked him if he was hunting tomorrow he said yes, called him at 4 this morning and he said he was to wore out to hunt, thinking how tired i was also i was thinking about not going, but i managed to get a shower around 5.30 and out the door i went got to my stand about 20 min till day light, around 7 i was feeling like i wish i would have stayed in bed, but in hunting things can change in a hurry, at 8.46 this and the only deer to come in made my day, made a perfect 30 yard shot and the schwacker did the rest he didnt run but 50 yards, just go's to show you cant kill a deer from the couch.

Getting even more pumped now. I said before I haven't had a picture on my cams out back that was in the day time. Well I think I might have gotten one this morning. I woke up, looked out my window into the field and seen what I THOUGHT was the deer pictured above. Got a long look at him and I am convinced it is a different BIGGER buck. Think I'll be hunting it tonight and definitely the mornings from now until we leave for camp next Saturday. I'm going to head out back and check the camera in a few hours to see if he went by it, from the direction he was walking when I first seen him, its a pretty good chance he did.

Well I couldn't wait and had to check the cam. I got a few pics of him this morning like I thought, these are the best of the group. He looked bigger when we seen him in the field, guess I'll have to try and get him on the ground to see :D

It's definitely a different deer than what I posted before. Finally got daytime pics of him, and I also got some daytime pics of a few does too!

Way to go Sskybnd! I have a great story about today for you guys. So i have a doe come in and holding at around 50 yards and a 8pt that is right about even with the buck sskybnd just shot comes in and hold at around 80 yards. He beds down after thrashing a bush and grunting at the doe. After ten minutes she has browsed to within 40 yards and he stands up and just keeps watching her. After about 5 more minutes he grunts and just keeps watching her. This goes on for about 40 minutes. She finally starts heading to me and when she hits 30 yards he starts grunting like mad and runs at her. She took off across the hill with him in hot pursuit. When she was at 30 yards and heading my way I was so sure she was going to string him right to me. The two deer stopped at 50 yards out and I used my flextone buck commander call to snort wheeze and the buck actually did it back! I grunted again but he would not leave the doe. She kept staring in my direction and i finally realized what she was looking at. With all of the excitement I did not see a 4 pointer standing right behind me!!! The 8 pt thought it was him grunting at him. The 8 point then pushes the doe out and the 4 point hung out for a while before leaving. The kicker is that I have been wanting to move my stand but was waiting for my buddy to help me. Today was his first day out and we moved it after the excitement. The down fall is that the tree i wanted to be in (and moved to) is 10 yards from where the buck was !!! Sorry for the long post!@

swohiodave, i bet that was fun to watch. even though they didnt get with in range, hope you have good luck when you move the stand, myself i try not to move a stand after season starts if its a ladder type stand, ive had a ladder set and found that the deer were moving 80 yards away not bad for gun but for bow hunting i use my climber to cut the distance than after season reset the stand. good luck

congrats sskybnd! you guys are definitely locked on to all these 8 pointers. dave sounds like an awesome hunt. i've never had a buck snort wheez back at me or have heard it yet.

...well my evening was rather slow tonight saw three does and then three more showed up out of range in the food plot. my cousin was just up the hill from me and had a couple young bucks grunting and running around like crazy. I haven't gotten any shooters on cam yet, but November is here so i'm hoping all the does in the areas i hunt will bring something on through. i've passed bucks for a couple years now i think and ate my tags. not doing it this year.

Well this stinks!!! I set my alarm on my phone for 6am, figured I'd be out at around 6:20 giving me plenty of time to set up before daylight, since I am hunting in my back yard. Well the alarm went off, only problem is it was actually 7am!!! Something was wrong with the time zone setting in my phone, it was telling my I was in the central time zone when I am in the eastern. Pretty bummed about that, after the pictures I got and seeing that buck yesterday, I was excited to be out there.

Michigan....you should have went anyway! I have overslept/stayed in bed/been lazy plenty of times and not gotten in my stand until 7:30 and still have seen big bucks and/or shot deer. Just take your time working your way in. Nice and slow and if you push something out they will probably circle back around later.

Vacation and hoping to get something down!

i work Monday through Friday. So i get to hunt only on the weekends if nothing else is going on. Well I'm going to put in (I will get) vacation on Friday of this week, Thursday and Friday of next week, and then Thanksgiving and Black Friday the following week. So with one 3 day weekend followed by two 4 day weekends I'm hoping to see a good buck and put a couple does in the freezer. There's rain here and there, but i think i'll be dodging it for the most part. The stages of the rut are kicking in so i'm being optimistic.

Nice job everyone!

I've been hunting my tail off but can't seem to get er done. Oct. 31st I shot over the back of a big one and it's been slow ever since. Lots of small bucks in range but I can't seem to find a big one, until last night...

Grunted at a monster at 300 yards. He started my way and I thought it was a done deal. He came to within 40 yards and decided it was best to circle down wind of where he heard the grunting. Needless to say, they don't get that big by being dumb...

I still have thru Monday to kill one with the bow, after that we'll be waiting til gun season.

I doubt I'll get out again until we are up north on Saturday. Right now it is pouring rain outside. If it was just a little bit I might have gone out, but it's coming down good. Tomorrow I have class so no go there, then Friday I'll be spending all day getting things ready, packing up the truck and going to bed early so I can get up at 2-3am and start our 7-8 hour trip.

Thanks Mike. You started us off good, now we just need to seal the deal.

Good luck Randy. Hang in there! Activity is picking up so you could have one by monday.

michiganbowhunter_SQ2... have a safe trip buddy. i attended an SAE snowmobile competition back in college for a couple years. it was held in the UP at the Keeweenaw Research Center. riding up around there, it seemed like it had potential for great hunting. Cut a big track in fresh snow and hunt it down.

Just checking in with a quick update from my end. Turning out to be another great season for quality buck sightings, just having a hard time getting one of them to step in front of my arrow. I've seen decent bucks nearly every day since we've gotten past the crappy weather we had early on.

This last Monday was by far my most eventfull day on stand to date! One hot doe led a parade of 20+ bucks to my stand with one shot opp at a bonified slammer and I blew it.

Having a hard time getting over that one, but bucks are still on the move here with the latest being a 10 from the stand this afternoon. Will be taking advantage of every momment of the remaining bow season and trying to hang a tag on one again before my slump enters it's 4'th season.

Too much time and preperation already invested this year to let that happen.

Good luck to everyone still holding a tag!
