sskybnd
well guys in still out there havent had much time to hunt, becouse of job, but i did have a hugh 8 point and a small 6 point come in sat, rule of thumb.. take the shot when you have it, had both the bucks come in at 50 yards and work there way down to 35, the 8 was walking the edge of the two types of trees, the hard woods and the pines , thinking this is great he will be at about 15 yards i watched him come and than stop, i was standing up with my bow only to watch him stop behind a pine limb that was blocking me from getting a shot, than like on cue he turned and walked into the hard woods never giving me the shot, knew i should have shot him at 35 instead Edited December 23, 2011 by sskybnd
ilhnter
Well here's our gun season. The first pic of me with my 5pt that I will have posted for points very soon. Just have to get my tag pic uploaded. The second pic is of my wife, who was 6 months pregnant during shotgun season and shot that 4 point. We were sitting together that morning and both shot small bucks. The last picture is of my dad with the 7 point he shot on opening day of the second season. I still have my either sex bow tag so maybe I'll get an upgrade, but not sure how many more hunts I'm going to get to go on this season. Congrats on the kills everyone and good luck to those still hunting!! Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
Hey team, sorry I've been away for a while. Been pretty busy with the holidays. Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas. My season is pretty much done. Been a pretty mild winter around here so far. Congrats to everyone who has scored since my last post. swohiodave
Went out Saturday morning and did not see ANYTHING! Had a run in with a guy who told me i was hunting in some other guys spot a few weeks ago and it has soured my mood this season. The kicker is the guy does not even know the owner. He is friends with another guy that has hunted there for years. He was not hunting in that spot either, told me his buddy was showing up with a bunch of guys for gun season to hunt in that spot. I talked to the owner and he said he would talk to them and tell them to shut up or get out. I was hoping it would be more of a get out. The kicker was the guy never even showed up and i was told he better not show up with anyone that does not have written permission. Going back saturday for ohio muzzleloader. Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
Our season ended on the 1st. I haven't hunted since I got my doe in mid November. I don't remember the holidays EVER being as busy as they were this past season. Good luck to anyone still hunting.
sskybnd
im still out there, have 3 more tags left, got a total of 6 this year, could kill 2 bucks and 4 does, or 6 does, ive taken one buck and 2 does so far this year, went this morning and had a doe in my food plot for about 5 min's at 27 yards, trying to get another buck this year, so she got a free pass, but cant say what she'l get by the end of season which ends feb 29th. swohiodave
I had 3 does bed down 40 yards behind me for 3 hours on saturday. I was going to shoot the biggest but after 3 hours of standing ( if i turned to sit they could have seen me, i was leaning into the tree to stay hidden) the wind swirled and 6 does jump up and run. I did not see the other 3 bed down. Most of the time no one hunts where i was so they thought they were safe when everyone showed up for muzzleloader. I was hoping a big buck would have thought the same thing.
dbHunterNY
sounds like a good encounter still Dave. Good luck to any of you still out! Got a meat slicer and then picked myself up a chest freezer for Christmas so i may have to take more deer next year. Hope everyone had a happy christmas or holiday and a happy new years! swohiodave
hey team, it was 15 degrees when i started out saturday. I sat in the stand until 11 and was freezing so i thought, its time to go. I turn around to see a small seven pointer and a fairly nice 8 (maybe 125") that i have been seeing on cam all year. Leading the way is a monster 10 point. i would guess him in the mid 140's to 150. They are headed on a trail towards me and turn to go down him about 30 yards behind me but its too thick to shoot. I grunted and they turned and walked back up to the trail and then kept going up the hill. what are the odds that they would turn to the right off the trail they were on then come back and then make a left off the trail. Oh well, still 2 or 3 more trips out this year. The sad thing is that i told my buddy i love the trail they were on before the season started but early in the season it is so thick you can only shoot right in front of you but it looks like i will be moving my stand near that 3 way intersection for next season. This is not the first time i have seen deer on that trail. what an exciting hunt, and i am glad to see all 3 of those bucks made it through gun season! I was surprised they are back in the bachelor groups so fast.
toddyboman
Late season hunting has been a complete bust and now season is closed. I will try and get all my pictures loaded onto my pc and posted. Late season was warm almost ever day. My key usually for late season is COLD and NASTY weather, which we had none of. However it is cold now....go figure. OH well I had a good season and can't complain much. Won't be long and it will be time to start shed hunting!! swohiodave
Not going out tomorrow, we had a lot of freezing rain last night/this morning and i am guessing my stand is frozen up.
sskybnd
same here, isnt anything like last year. just dont have the cold, last year at this time we were in the teens. we still have over a month left, and the only thing going for me is the brows seems to be lacking, i guess from the heat and lack of rain from the summer months, had 6 does friday come in, they are eating 50lbs of corn in 2 days, holding out for a buck still. seen one nice one a few weeks ago
swohiodave
Next weekend is my wifes birthday so i MAY get out sunday evening. dbHunterNY
the mild weather must be making the late season hunting a little tougher. luck guys. seems like the season here has been long gone.
swohiodave
Sorry guys, i saw the big 10 two weeks ago and last weekend was nasty weather and the wifes birthday, not this weekend she wrecked her car friday night and it rained all day saturday. She is ok but i stayed with the family today, they come first and ohio's season slipped away. Time to start planning for next year. It was great to be on a team with everyone, we had a good group here!
dbHunterNY
no need to appologize for staying with the family Dave. that 10 pt will be even bigger next year.
RackBlaster
Sorry team, it was a bust for me this year. I had alot of opportunities, but opted to pass. The weather really did me in. Seen some really nice bucks but never close enough and the ones that were i always came up with a reason why i shouldn't shoot them, some i have regrets some not. With the exception of not harvesting a deer, I had a really good season , the whole experience of being out there is most satisfying to me. Great team , had fun.
