ilhnter
Well my week of vacation is over and no deer. It was slow slow slow. The weather was horrible, warm and windy almost everyday this past week. I'll be out again Sunday and Tuesday before shotgun season opens next weekend. Good Luck everyone! sskybnd
well today was the first day of gun season, went and sat in the stand for about 2 hours, heart just wasnt in it, short story found a baby coon about 3 months ago was rasing him, he was very small and fit in a small havaheart trap, got him a bigger cage and would let him out when i got home to run my room, 2 days ago i let him out and than came to eat, when i went back into the room he had gotten out beside the air conditioner sideing in the window, my girl friend found him sleeping in a tree beside the house about 20 ft up, i climbed up and went to get him, when i got him in my hands the branch broke cousing my to drop him, my girl friend said she seen him sleeping under the neibours lawn mower, when i looked he was gone, realy heart broken one for droping him and the other becouse he is so young im afraid he wont make it, thats why my hearts not in hunting right now. swohiodave
Saw one doe today sneaking behind me. Full moon last night and high winds today made for an awful day of hunting.

swohiodave
Plenty of season left. My buddy saw the same 8 i saw last weekend with a doe yesterday. He jumped the gun and tried to shoot the doe when he didnt see the 8 anymore. I told him the 8 wasnt far behind. Never shoot a single doe with a trailing buck unless you are strictly a meat hunter! dbHunterNY
well early season here turned out to be a season with no big buck sightings. tomorrow in the AM in the rifle opener. got back from the range and the Browning 30-06 is sighted in. Hoping I see something opening day. After that I may hunt near the city where it's bow hunting only. Many hikers and human presence make deer sightings hit or miss. I should get on shooting a doe soon though.
woolybear
Year #3 I couldn't get it done with the bow. Had some great oppertunities and close encounters but looks like I'll have to rely on the ML to get out of my slump again. Regular firearms opens in the morning and I still got some real quality bucks hanging out on the propperty. Hang in there guys, rivers of blood flow when I get this gun in my hands, lol. Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
What's up team? I'm just getting back from the U.P., been gone since early last Saturday. Bow hunted for a day and a half and seen about 12 deer, but couldn't get a clean shot on any of them. Gun season started Tuesday, didn't see much, some doe's but nothin close enough to shoot, and I didn't have a doe tag then. Since i only had a few hours today to hunt, I decided to get up early this morning and run up to town and get a doe tag before going out, sat in the blind for probably not even an hour and had two deer come in. Raised my gun up, but didn't think I had a clean shot so I let down, they ended up taking off in the other direction. About ten minutes later I caught movement through some trees about 80 yards away. Hit the can call a couple times and had a doe come right to me. She sat behind a tree for a minute but eventually stepped out and I pulled the trigger, was about a 25 yard shot. Seen her run off so I waited a bit and got out of the blind to look for signs of a hit. I couldn't find anything where she was standing so I started slowly walking in the direction she ran looking for blood, I went about 50 yards and couldn't find anything. As I was standing there thinking if I missed or not, and feeling a bit disappointed that I might have blown my chance, I looked down and about a foot to the left of me I seen blood. Started looking around and found a really good blood trail. It went on for another 40-50 yards and I thought I'd better stop and wait for a while in case I was pushing her. Sitting there waiting, I could see the blood trail, and spotted something through all the downed trees. I walked over and there she was, a pretty decent size doe. We ended up bring home 5 deer between the 3 of us. I am beat from the long drive and am heading to bed, here is a pic I took of in the woods with my phone, I'll hopefully get here entered tomorrow. dbHunterNY
way to go guys! so the rifle season opener was this today. i didn't end up with an opportunity at a shooter by the close of early bow season. the rifle opener was today. saw 27 doe and 2 small bucks. saw some big old mature does and whould've killed one but didn't have a doe tag for the regular season and the area i was hunting. i'm hunting the same spot in the AM, so hopefully i'll see something bigger. sskybnd
wat to go guys, hope every one gets to get a deer this year, as for me its getting ruff around the house, i'l still hunt this year but i have filled my freezer up and girlfriend is freaking out, went hunting this morning and called her from the stand, was playing with her and said i killed another one, the call went from pleasant to bad on want to know where i was going to put the meat, than i told her i was joking, so the next deer i kill will have to be bigger than the 8 so it can go on the wall. swohiodave
This weekend was interested to say the least. Head out saturday and its windy as all get out again. My buddy comes running up the trail to catch to up me. Guy is in the treestand right next to the one he uses. That is another story for another day. He goes to an alternate stand and I walk back to the car and get my climber because my stand is only 100 yards from where the guy is. My buddy and I bowhunt fairly close together. We are trying to pin this buck down and he has 2 major trails on a hill so you can guess where we are. So i go across the street behind the farmers house and see 1 doe around 10:30. I try a fawn call to get her to come in with no luck. Well old mr coyote hears it and comes running in. Stops at 50 yards behind a tree and runs off never offering a shot. I get down to scout this new area and when i crest a small peak on the hill i can see someone on the neighbors hill hunting. These guys are watching the hill across from them that they do not have permission to hunt. What nerve. If a deer is on this hill no chance it will head to theres. steep drop off below. So my buddy hears this and decides to target shoot on that hill before we leave. Did i mention the guy in the treestand in the morning did not have his blaze orange on during youth gun season? He parked down the road instead of parking by the house so we would have known he was there!

dbHunterNY
for the gun season opening day (this past Saturday) and then yesterday morning, I ended up seeing 50+ deer. out of them only a handful were small bucks. the rut has picked up much. seems like things are still in the beginnings of the chasing phase. have another four day weekend starting thanksgiving day. may end up hunting down around city of Albany where it's bow only. i've got an area specific tag to take a doe down there and there's more potential for an older bigger buck to fill my regular tag. just not nearly as convenient and sightings are hit or miss. otherwise i'll have to wait until the late season Dec 12-20 to take a doe. good luck to the rest of you with unfilled tags. woolybear
Finaly getting around to loading pics. Here's my contribution for now. I'll be looking to upgrade durring the late ML season when I get 8 more days. This little guy gave me more than one great hunt so I couldn't resist. Things have realy dropped off here. Haven't gotten a buck on cam since gun season started, but I'm sure I'll get on something good before I get to hunt again.
dbHunterNY
congrats wooly. yea i had a spike run in a 15 yard circle around my stand for about 20 minutes opening morning, right where i Buck Bombed. he put on quite a show... keep us posted. RackBlaster
Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Congrats to all that harvested a deer. I spent the first week of Nov. bowhunting and seen some monsters, but never came in range and past up some really nice bucks since. I missed out on the the first IL gun season and the whole WI gun season this year. I will be hunting most weekends til the season is over usually see alot of nice bucks when the cold sets in. Almost had a shot at a big 10 this morn but a load of turkeys flew across the creek and he turned about 70 yards out. This weekend looks promising as long as the wind is right.I still see bucks running doe's around so thats a good sign. Good luck to everyone
swohiodave
BAD MORNING! I had a 3 pt come in at 8:30 and then a large buck come in around 9:30. He was at least a nice 8, but I did not get to count more than 3 on one side because he was about 60 yards out in the brush. I snorted at him and he stopped and was checking out my area when he spooked an ran. 2 muts came running up the hillside noses to the ground. I used my fawn call and they came in my direction and the buck ran off. When I saw the dogs all I could do was laugh. Once was a lab mix and the other was a beagle mix with the shortest legs ever. That buck was 130' min but looked bigger, too bad, I always have next week.
