15 points for usLast morning of our Primitive firearms season and I decided to venture to a stad that we usually hunt in rifle season because it's so thick and the deer usually hold up there as hunting presure gets higher. Almost took a doe being last day and all but it was to early for legal shooting so I passed and boy am I glad I did. About 30 minutes latera shooter walked into a shooting lane and I had to make a quick decision and shot. He went about 20 yards and "DIRT NAP".

Dang, I just checked the scoreboard and it looks like we've jumped out to an early lead. I guess the rest of use deadbeats better get on the ball and kill something. Rifle season opens here on Saturday, but the weather doesn't look too promising. Lows in the upper 50's and highs in the 70's. The deer are trying to start their rut, but I think the warm weather has all of the chasing happening at night. We'll see how it goes this weekend. I'm taking off Monday so I'll get 3 days of hunting in.

Didn't see too much over the weekend. About 30 does and maybe a dozen or so different bucks. Saw one decent 8 point chasing a doe and a young 10 point that has a free pass this year. Rut still hasn't cranked up yet. Going back on Thursday. Got a light rain last night at the ranch. Hopefully it will be enough to get the wheat going. Cut back on the planting this year from 600 acres to about 350.

Well the rut is in here. Rattled up a nice 8 point shooter last Friday morning along with 2 small bucks. The 8 point wasn't as big as my 10 so I let him pass (lol He didn't give me a shot !!!!)

Seriously doubt I will do better than my 10 though. It's taken my 22 yrs to kill one that big and is going to be hard to top.

You know if everyone kills atleast a doe we would be in a huge lead !!!!!!!! lmbo

Good Luck everyone !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have until mid Jan to shoot does, so that won't be a problem. I also got an invite this morning to go hunt a high fenced ranch for their annual doe kill. Their biologist recommended, actually it's more of a requirement, they take 200 does this year. Not sure when (or if) I'll participate, but I may go help them out. Last time I went on one of those, I killed 7 does in one day. I swore after that I'd never do it again. I was so sick of skinning deer.

Well boys...some bad news....we did a drive on tuesday and a buck came out to me about 100 yards though some pretty thick bush....I took one poke at him and he ran down the line to the next guy who put him down.So it was his deer right.....wrong after skinning him out I had hit him and he was running dead.....so no pics and no points for us....hope to get one with the bow next week

I didn't have much luck either. Saw a couple of mature bucks, but neither one had a decent set of antlers. One was a 7 point and the other a 6. I guess the drought we had all Spring and Summer has really taken it's toll on antler growth. Pretty depressing to see a 5 year old deer with a 7 point rack that might score 100 on a good day. I did have a really cool daytime encounter with a badger. Got some close up pics that I'll be posting up later.
