Early to bed, too early to rise.

Just being out there is what it's about--especially at your age, lol. :D

We start up the 24th. Like last year, I'm pretty busy with the kids' activities, but I'm hoping to get out.

Good luck!

Lol, I had one wake me up this morning. Blew like a banshee, she did. Messed up that spot for awhile ... must be true about napping more when you get a older...:sleep1:

Sorry the 1st day was a llittle slow.

of all things to forget was my Thermocell.

Bet you won't make that mistake again Mike! BTW...I usually forget something opening day but not a Thermocell down here.

I can relate to that! Doesn't happen on stand but I've sure arrived at the age where there's few things better than a power nap right after lunch during hunting season.

Good luck on your next hunt.

Thanks everyone!

As usual there was no one around to take pictures so the 10 second self timer was put to use once again. With the heat building and some gutting to do I snapped a few pics. There was only one that I liked so I made a video out of my morning. I didn't get the kill shot on video as I didn't have a chance to get the camera mounted. Besides, I never know what part of the thick the deer are going to come from.

This spot is where i killed my best NJ buck to date and I really didn't want to go in there. However, that doe busting me yesterday got me to thinking where she might be headed. My hunch proved right. There is a small overgrown power cut left of the ladder where the deer like to bed. As thick as it is, there is one corridor or "hallway" as I like to call it heading right to that cut. There is a whole lot of truth in deer taking the path of least resistance. The backside of the ladder rolls over a little bluff to the road. One of those "they have to go this way" spots.

I moved the ladder from the other end as the only cover it had was blown down. The trouble with the spot now is that you have to be on your toes because it happens quick.

I thought this doe was by herself as she appeared in the light fog. I was a little stunned to see two spotless fawns show up and look around after I took the shot. Most times the little ones lead the way. They will be fine, but still I like to take a lone mature doe. This one field dressed at 100 lbs. I took her out whole so there is no evidence for anyone going through there and to keep the flies at bay.

You may have to let the video load. Having trouble putting the metadata up front.

Thanks a bunch, guys. I am glad you liked the video. I'm happy to share it with you.

Looks like you made a great shot on her

I knew i was in there somewhere, lol. When I drew up it was a bit difficult to see through the peep. Either it didn't turn all the way or it was just that gray in slight fog. It was plenty past legal time. I remember having to look twice and shoot once! :turned:
