Muzzy about to price themselves out?

I started shooting Muzzy several years back. I was shooting thunderheads before that. Muzzy makes one tough head and until this year thier price was a huge factor in my using them.

Its hard to beat a BH that cost around 20 for three and is rock solid. However, I noticed that Walmart has the price up on them. They now run close to $30 for 3. That price is the entire reason ive never tried any of the higher end bh'ds and or expensive mechanicals. But with Muzzy coming up to the $30 range im going to stumble around and look at other options before I pickup a pack at $10 each..

What say you? Still the best BH'd in the $30 range or are there other options for that price?

From what I've seen where I shop Muzzy's are still cheaper, i've had the same ones for about 4 years now. I target practice with them a little before the season then spend a little time sharping them up for the season. I've never changed blades even on the broadhead that i've killed 4 deer with, just sharpen it up a little. I dont plan on changing anytime soon.

I think you might be looking at their Max versions of their standard BH. I noticed our local store had the 3 for $30, then looked closer and noticed they were the Max version.

I really don't know what the difference is. If I'm going to spend $30 on 3 BH's, it's going to be the Rage 2 blade.

They have the MAX Muzzy's here for 21.95.

Rage 2's are 39.95 for 3 here :(

I've shot Muzzys for a long time, but at 30 a pop I might try the Montecs.

I actually have Montecs but couldnt keep them sharp enough to keep me happy. They are rock solid but new out of the package they werent very sharp and I struggled to keep what I consider a sharp edge on them.

Same here for the Rage I think. Sometimes they go on sale for $35.

I really wonder if there's that big of a difference between the Max vs. the regular Muzzy. 6 for $30, or 3 for $30. Doesn't make sense.

You may be on to something Chris. They have the MX3 for $30 but from the look of it they are a regular muzzy with MX3 printed on it?!

I work for a "big box" sporting goods store, that carries the 3 pack 100 grains for 34.99, but the 6 pack 100 grains are 39.99. That may be something that you want to look at, because it still comes out to $20 for 3 if you buy the 6 pack. Hope this helps.

I bought a 6-pack two years ago at BP for $30. That is the way to buy them if it works out. However, with the price now around $40 I question is there a really good BH out there for $30 - $40 and im misisng out on something?

Ive also considered just buying new blades for the muzzy.

Don't guess I have seen them at that high a price yet Jeramie. I bought another 6 pack last fall with some cabelas points, best of my recollection that was $30. Will pay attention in wally world next time I am in there and will have to watch for broadheads on clearance.

For some reason the Walmarts around me only have the MX3 in stock and they are $30 for 3. Im going to hit Bass Pro tomorrow or Friday and see what they have on their fall sale.

I have wondered if the Schwacker isnt better than the Rage? There is a Schwacker video out there being played quite a bit and they look impressive. I know they will build up their product so it looks impressive but honestly, they looked better than the rage for the $$$. Seems like everyone has mixed emotions about rage. Personally I think they are a good head but ive never shot them..

Slick Trick. I shot Muzzys forever, but after reading all the amazing things about SlickTricks, picked some up...ended up buying another pack too. They fly like field tips. Also less surface area than the Muzzys, but still a 4 blade, 1" diameter cut.

Muzzy's aren't worth $10 a BH. If you want to spend that kind of money look at Montec's, Strikers, or Slick Tricks. Going with Montec's myself this year.

I've said it a million times, I love my Slick Trick mags. If I am not near a store I get my Broadheads at MeanV Archery. Free shipping!!!!

Muzzy 3 packs at wally world this morning were $21.99. They had RT heads for $9.99 a 3 pack, they had a better selection on broadheads than I have seen at our wal mart in several years.

I noticed the same at the two stores I checked out yesterday. At the store I frequent most often, they had expanded their ammo case, and added a back wall display of hunting stuff. It seems like they have remembered how many hunters shop there.

A few things....

Heard great things about slick tricks, but haven't tried them.

The Muzzy MX series head are different than the regular ones. From what I can remember when I used to shoot them, the blades are thicker, head a little more durable, and about an 1/8" bigger cutting dia. I remember one day i thwacked a down tree by tagging a little branch enroute to a buck. kicked the buried head until it popped out of the tree, figuring it wasn't going to be usable. it looked fine and actuall spin tested true.

I've seen the schwacker video, where they test a bunch of popular heads by shooting through a 55 gal steel drum. I have one really big issue with this. They say the others failed. Well the schwacker didn't (blades didn't break off), because the blades deploy after passing through the drum wall. Well especially with a quartering away shot into the far shoulder, you won't get a pass through exit hole. lots of cutting is going on inside sure, but with just one small entry hole i don't think the blood will be easy to follow.

i shoot Rage heads because they've worked for me. every deer i've seen shot by me or otherwise has a typical 3" gash that produces a great blood trail. i do think there's other heads out there that are more durable and some that are sharper. however, my setup ain't broke so i'm not fixing it.

Went to bass pro last night and picked up a pack of Muzzy and a pack of Slick Tricks.

Now as far as the big name Mechanicals, is there a good one? I wouldnt mind picking up a pack of them anad shooting them too to compare. I know the Rage is all the rage (bada boom) but what about the NAP Bloodrunner? Schwacker? Suggestions welcome. If figure if I dont like playing with them and decide not to carry them out ill just put them on Ebay.
