How often should u use a grunt call I use mine about every 30mins should I do it more often

Been alot of research done on that and I think it comes down to if the buck is interested. Have had many times buck cruising just out bow range and I grunt a few times and he acts like he didnt hear it. Other times they come right in. Im myself dont do alot of blind grunting usually like to see deer first and see how he reacts

I rarely call without seeing a deer. I think calling too much can alert or spook deer. Pretty much agree with the pro staffer Tim here.

It also depends on the time of season, imho. I have grunted too early in the season with no reaction and then grunted during the rut and had them come in on a hot train.

I like to grunt when I can make eye contact too but have cold grunted before with some success. A few years ago I hit a Tru Talker a handfull of times right after daylight. I had three bucks come in hot. I shot the smaller not knowing there were two large bucks sneaking in from another direction. They all three came in for a fight. It was the week after ML'er in Oklahoma so the deer were hot to trott....

I am not a pro, just your regular ordinary backyard hunter here, but I agree a lot with that first sentence. I call blind here around the pre-rut and into the rut, usually go with sequences 15-20 minutes apart when I know the timing is right, sometimes more frequent depending on what I am seeing. Have killed quite a few deer that I believe may not have showed had I not been calling. Think some places where the terrain allows that blind calling can be extremely effective, when the deer has to come around or out and show himself to you to see who is in his territory and cannot see where the call is coming from. Calling in combination with a buck scent works well in my opinion.

for elk i only cow call, and always have a cow decoy. i think a decoy is better than a call. i decoy in elk and antelope, but not deer. i also call as little as possible. it seems to me that anyone hunting with an extra 20 dollars is calling. i know the elk are pretty well used to hunters calling. the antelope are still pretty niave'.

Right now I only contact call when I see a buck. Like others have mentioned it depends on the time of the year. When bucks start looking for doe a good call to use is a fawn bleat.
