xzavyer
i have a piece of hunting property thts not to big but it isnt to lil. its got about 20 acres of woods on one side then crp and powerlines. in front of the property is about 30 acres of crp. in the middle is a 100 yrd wide patch of woods with a thicket in the front. next to it is a 40 yrd wide patch of grown up grass with trails all threw it. then next to tht is another great big patch of woods about 20acres wide with creeks running threw them. and 30 more acres of crps. across the street is about a mile wide and about 300yd long set of woods tht noone is aloud to hunt with crps ponds thickets. all the deer seem to walk on our property. theres alot of acorns and alot of food. i put out a couple of lick sites. what should i do in terms of putting stands. we only bow hunt it. and i know about the whole wind situation
jbeck
sounds like a great set up, if you are looking at hunting the rut I would put up stands close to the thicket and CRP field try to stay out of your core bedding area's no sense educating your deer early and making them go nocturnal. Heck I would say without seeing the place with a topo map just hunt fringe area's early then hit you funnel area's during chase phase. JMO, i'm no pro
Stinger-Hunter
I like the sound of the "great big patch of woods about 20 acres wide with creeks running threw them." I'd try to find out if they are crossing in and around the creek and then set up in that area of the woods. Like XZAVYER said, "without seeing it in a topo map." Don't forget, if you download Google Earth and take a gander in a close-up of the area often times you can see deer trails from the satellite photos. I did this years ago to a 40 acre spot and realized that deer were traveling about 60 yards from my main hunting spot. I moved my stand and low and behold - deer crossed my path the next day from the exact paths on the map.
wtnhunt
Welcome to the forums. Not a pro, but sounds like you got a great property. If you post a map folks can better add where they think you should place stands. Would agree on the creek crossing, find a preferred crossing and place a stand nearby. Powerlines seem to do real well pretty well anywhere, especially when they are cut through woods. Identify pinch points, would utilize them for stand placement. mikebohio
also love creek crossings. trail cams will give you all the answers you need though. they are the most important tool i own after the bow.
fly
What others have said. I like the wood edge next to the thicket next to the field with high grass. Don't rule out a ground blind.
