Jeramie
Last year I spent about $40 at Bass Pro for a duck call. It was a single reed, really pretty call, but I couldnt get it to sound worth a hoot. I ended up taking it back and buying two cheap calls and putting them on a lanyard. They sound good buck freeze up and tweek if you blow them too hard. They also dont blow when very wet. This year I want a couple of new calls. I want something decent but cant spend $80 each. I was at Bass Pro looking yesterday and found some calls I liked, some I didnt, but really didnt know what calls were decent. I hated to buy them and then have to bring them back so im coming to you. Ive been duck hunting hard for a few years now and im fairly natural at calls so ive got calling down pretty good. I need two or possibly three calls that are effective but not bank breaking to add to a new lanyard. Ill keep my cheap calls around my neck as fail safes but want to have some new "ammo" to take this year. Anyone have any suggestions? Approximate pricing? Single reed or double (ive had the most luck with double but only owned one single)? Why single, why double? Looking for input. I want to pick the calls up soon. Season is almost here.... Ill be chasing manly Mallard and Gadwall. I do get the chance to shoot a few others but 85+ percent of my kills are either Mallard or Gadwall.. Hardwood_HD
I like the Duck Commander calls, i have their original mallard call their teal call and their wood duck call on my lanyard. I cant call very well but i think they sounds good and have killed several ducks with them plus they are not expensive at all. I also like RNT callls, i have their G2 goose call and love it, but it was not cheap. Another duck call i would love to have is the Haydel Carbon Quacker but i havent heard many reviews about them, i think they are $50. Hope this helps a little

dogdoc
I have found that once you learn how to call correctly you can almost pick up any duck call and sound good. You need to go to an outdoor show where there will be lots of call makers and go blow a bunch of different calls. I blow a custom made cocobola call and an acrylic call made my Hobo Calls. Both are great calls but I also have a poly-carb Buck Gardner that is a 20 dollar call that sounds pretty awesome. Get a good instructional dvd and practice a lot. good luck todd
mikewink
Not all calls are made equal. Dogdoc was spot on with the advice he gave. Depending on the type of call and reed have alot to do with the ease of use. The inside diameter of the barrel, bore on the insert all play into it also. You should be able to find a custom or semi custom (poly carb insert) call for a reasonable cost. Check out the guys on THO game calls forum. Some really talented guys all are willing to help you out.
92xj
Foiles calls are going for cheap right now.....If you dont care about the name, then I would look at them. I use 5 of their duck calls and 3 goose calls. I have blown everything I have put my hands on and cant make myself get away from the Foiles sound. Price wise, they are high but you can tell a difference between high end and low end calls. With all his crap going on, you can find some smoking deals on them. I carry around 750 bucks around my neck when I hunt and I dont think one bit that I paid too much or that I am crazy for spending that money. Too each their own but there is a huge difference in calls out there. Edited September 21, 2011 by 92xj

Jeramie
I picked up two calls this past weekend. One is the Buckgarner Double Nasty II. The other is the Quackpipe. The Quackpipe is a single reed where the Double Nast is a double. I have bought a few singles and apparently it takes far more air to blow a single. Not a big deal but I prefer the sound of the double for sure. Regardless, im picking up a new lanyard (4-call lanyard) today. Im going to add my goose call to the new lanyard too and probably pickup one more goose call for good measure.
RTF
That Double Nasty is a good call for the money.
Jeramie
Ive been pretty impressed. I drive about 2 hours a day so ive been blowing them while driving. Even the small step up in price from where I was made a difference. They sound pretty good!
Shaun_300
Can't recall what brand name of duck call I know of... sounds really good though! Best calls I've heard is from a company in this area in Quebec called Recall Designs. My buddy bought a beautiful goose call from them at the last sportsmans show around here a couple weeks ago. Cost over 100 bucks but sounds and looks amazing. This is their website. Recall Designs
