jesse8953
Just wondering what broadhead everyone is using.fixed or mechanical.I shoot a horton exploer and I used spitfire 100 gr. my 1st couple seasons and the last 2 seasons I used 2 blade rage. This year I went back to the spitfire.I had better blood trails with the spitfire.I have never tried any fixed blades. The guy at the sporting shop told me mechanical was the way to go but my buddy uses muzzy and has never had any problems. mikebohio
never had any problems with the rage. my only beef is they are ruined after the first deer. they put the hurt on the deer though.

PotashRLS
1 3/4" Grim Reapers............The only head I ruined was when I blew it through the shoulder blade and spine of my 2009 black bear. When it comes to deer, you just pull the blood soaked arrow out of the ground, wash it off and replace the blades. They are super tough for expandable heads. We've been shooting them since they came out. I killed 2 bucks with Spitfires back in the mid/late 90s and they put nice holes in em. However, if you put a Spitfire and Grim Reaper side by side and compare the energy needed to open them, you will be amazed. The Reapers open SO MUCH easier because of the cam ring inside. jbeck
I use the grim reapers but I can say the wasp bullets shoot really well out of my crossbow
swohiodave
NAP 100 gr thunderheads and 100 gr spitfires.
MichiganHunter
I''m in the same boat. I was running spitfire 100g traded to rage, didn't like em much, blades didn't stay locked in place on the o ring, didn't pass threw as much and sounded louder traveling. SO this year I have changed back to spitfire max 100g.
the one
I have used the rage 3 blades and they work well, I have killed 7 deer using them. Two of the deer have been over 170lbs live wt. Not bad for GA. Real good blood trail but I must say. Blood trail really not needed all but one deer fell within 30yds. The other one only went about 75yds. Blades hold up very well I have been shooting them since they came out on the market. I am still using the same set. Just buy the replacements and change the blades. I was thinking about going to the 2 blades but after reading the reviews I will stick to the 3 blades.
mikebohio
the reasoning for the new rage crossbow head is to increase penetration. they changed the blade angle. it reduces the cutting diameter slightly but is suppose to increase penatration. Flintlock1776
Fixed only. Magnus 4 blade 100 grain only. All but two deer I have gotten with that broad head just dropped in their tracks. One deer went 10 yards and the other went 40 yards. I have been using Magnus for years. I like their warranty too. If the broadhead breaks, save three of the broken ones, put them back in the blister pack they came in and Magnus will replace them for free. Interestingly, I have yet to take them up on that offer but I like knowing they have that warranty. Fixed are easy to resharpen. Once sighted in with one broad head, all the others follow the same trajectory and it is rather quick for me to be zeroed in. Magnus does not advertise like the other brands but their efficacy, and the results I have achieved is all I need to know!:toot:
