need2hunt
Well with season almost upon us here in Illinois the big question starts up... When do you think they'll get the corn pulled out this year? The corn in our area is getting pretty close being ready to pick... some fields have come down for silage while I've seen others getting picked for real... I think the corns going to be picked pretty fast once they start on it. How bout where your at?
wtnhunt
Most of the corn around us was out a few weeks ago Gary. There is one medium sized corn field left behind us that I know of and it is not quite ready yet, ground is too wet there for them to get in to harvest it right now anyway. I am sure there are deer in it that moved from the other cornfields right across the road. Not any bean fields this year that are really close, everything left that is close is in cotton. Tominator
I've seen a few fields with drooping corn, but no many, and I'm betting the ones that are, are pretty wet, both the fields and moisture content. I think it's going to be a while, same with beans.
WHISKEYSWAMP
I doubt corn will be ready around here until at least November and beans still have at least a couple weeks. Last year crops were almost completely off by bow season or within a couple weeks after bow season started.
Rhino
Been out a while...at least 3 to 4 weeks since I've seen standing corn in the fields I check down here.
Jeramie
Hard drought over the summer with weeks of 100+ days. No rain and we are still over 8" behind. Most of our corn in the area was mowed for hay as it wasnt putting on anyway.... Soybean is the only thing standing right now in just about any field. Its not really making either... MUDRUNNER
I'm seeing about the same as you are. Some combining started last week around here, but I would say maybe 4-5% of corn is out, at most. Still a ways to go, but most fields look ready to be picked. The beans are actually still fairly green for the most part. It will probably be at least another 2-3 weeks before most of those are ready. Due to the spring floods and summer drought it sounds like the yield is pretty low this year.
dbHunterNY
i've got relatives who farm river bottom/flats. most of their corn was lost from flooding. however, there's a lot of hills here in upstate NY that kept things drained with the flooding. Harvest dates are across the board though, because it's single farms doing lots of corn by my house. most i think will be picked late october to early november. some fields have already been chopped that had earlier day corn. ears are fully hardened and kernels dented, just waiting to dry out to be picked. i've been scouting the corn and deer are just starting to hit it here. Ravin R10 man
corn for silage came off about two weeks ago..we are waiting for kernals to dry down now.two real good hard frosts a week ago ended the growing season..some of the late planted corn may be out there awhile
Ethan Givan
Farmers are shelling here now, and have been for a couple weeks. The particular farm that I hunt on is mostly beans this year but they have some corn and they started taking it out this week. They have been running behind getting their equipment ready to go. Randyman
Just read that 22% of the Corn has been harvested here in Illinois as opposed to 54% at this time last year, so it is definitely behind schedule. In my neck of the woods (Macoupin and Jersey Counties) the harvest probably isn't more than 10 % done, so early season is going to be tough, but the harvest is starting to pick up. hoosierhunter
Northern Indiana here. Our beans are being ran now. Although fields seem to be on very different cycles. Some beans are done and others are still really green. Just spoke with one of our farmers on Tuesday about leaving standing crops and he said he won't run those beans for a couple weeks yet. Corn seems to be no where near coming off around here.
