MichiganHunter
Ok, so my neighbor (great guy, salt of the earth, very honest) works for the local county road crew, well they have a section of county private property that is used as a dump for gravel. While out with his boss (the head of that garage) they noticed a stand put on county private property, and then a little ways further another one both on county private property. Well his boss was going to just get the backhoe and rip them to the ground. My neighbor said well can I take them down after work and have them. He got the green light and brought them home. One was a new fixed position and the other was a new 22' ladder stand. The ladder he didn't want and asked me if I did..(free)..well I snapped it up but now kind of feel bad. Some one just lost $300 worth of stand....but he did tresspass to put them up and was going to tresspass every time he hunted. SO...would you feel bad or just enjoy your new stand..it is a nice stand Edited September 28, 2011 by MichiganHunter
swohiodave
I see someone hunting on land they do not have permission to be on as poaching. I think god is punishing them and rewarding you. What goes around comes around and this is a thank you from the man upstairs!

Tominator
Agree with William. Only way I'd feel bad is if it was an honest mistake. If it was, I'm betting the dude will contact the county and maybe he could try to recoup his loss, but I'm betting he knew it was private property. Jeramie
Yeah, he knew. Most people that live around land like that know. He probably snuck on knowing there wouldnt be any pressure. I wouldnt feel too bad about it. Next time your up in the stand look up, say thanks, and go on...
dbHunterNY
yea i'd just look at it as you got luck and a new stand. land like that is usually clearly Posted or known. if it isn't then maybe he didn't know.
Rhino
Enjoy the stand. It was the representatives of the county's land that confiscated it..not you. If not for your neighbor, they would have been scrap metal laying on the ground. No reason for you to feel bad at all...especially for a guy who's tresspassing in the 1st place. Ohiobucks
Whew, thank goodness you have my stand. It was an honest mistake, I thought I was on the neighboring property. Innocent I tell ya. If you could return it to me, that would be awesome.... :shifty:

You must have taken off & made a lot of wrong turns too if you ended your journey in Michigan...then the old "OK that looks like the right place...hold my beer and watch this!" victor3ranger
We had someone drive thru our place last year and put up a tripod stand in the middle of our half section. I took pics of the track (snow on the ground) all the way in to the stand and pics of the stand itself. After that I disassembled it and moved it to another farm. The jerkwad opened our gates, left them open and drove over another pasture fence getting to the stand location.

I tried to start a fire in the bowhunting room, but hoosier, Kylee, and Tom but they stopped playing in that thread.
stevebeilgard
enjoy your good fortune. i would, however, get a letter from the county of just why you own that stand now. if you can't, no sweat.
swohiodave
That reminds me, last year someone came onto the farm I hunt on and folded up my buddys ground blind and left it leaning on a tree.....they were trespassing as no one else has permission to be on this piece of land behind the house! Dawg
I'll be hunting out of a climber this weekend that my dad confiscated off of some Corps of Engineer land (he works for the Corps). He was out checking some Corps land and found two climbers in the woods. He got them both, posted a notice, gave the owner(s) ample time to come get them but the owner(s) never made a showing. So now I have a nice Summit climbing stand........and I'm smiling about it!!

MichiganHunter
Well, you know, I heard there are numerous large whitetails in Michigan just like this one: Just saying, I have met Mitch and several people how know him threw CBM (michigan's record keepers) and I cant see him faking it. And most of the people who know him cant see it either. I know that he keeps the rack in his gun safe and has shown it to a few people in cbm that are friends with him. If you go to the cbm website (buckfax.com) you use to be able to see some of the other big bucks he has taken. He had quite a few.....But I guess we'll never know. Stinger-Hunter
I would probably leave a note on the tree that said I had the stand and it was on private property. But then you could be in a whole lotta mess with a man who is missing one stand and he wants you to tell him where it is.... tough call. I'd probably leave a note and tell him where to find his stand (I'd leave it somewhere with anther note saying you only had one - next time don't trespass, type of thing.) I can't take another man's stand - illegally put there or not. I've had tree stands taken from me when the person who stole them thought I was on private property- turned out it was on public land and I had to threaten the guy and the landowner had to tell him to give it back. Clearly this guy was trespassing, but I say he likely learned his lesson and with the generosity, will not be back. If he does come back - call the cops. Ravin R10 man
Stands on County lands around here are fair game if left up after season...we cut off timber and do find a few...if the foresters dont find them first.. Enjoy your new stand
