stevebeilgard
it seems lately that i have lots of time and not much to do. so, maybe i'll just kill some time doing what i like second best, hunting. i have a ranch that artie and jeff have been on, with a few elk on it. every 3 years they offer licenses for that area. next year, 2012, it will open again. chances of getting a tag are about 5%. chances of getting a shot at a 6 x 6 or larger bull????? not bad. anyone who wants to put in, let me know by christmas. apply for tags from jan. 1 to feb. 15, and by mid march you'll get your money back. or a license. i'll show you around and work with you all i can, and you'll never have a better, cheaper chance to shoot a monster elk. bow season is september, rifle is october. elk are pre rut sept. 10, and full rut by sept 15. i'll suggest putting in for a party of 2, rather than hunt alone. camping is free and i also have equipment available. and, maybe, a little expertise. PotashRLS
Its on my list Steve but life and the economy at the moment just doesn't allow it. Just an offer like that shows the true sportsman and guy you are. Hope someone can do it.

wyohunter
i might have to use that area as a second choice, since i didnt draw my local area this year
WHISKEYSWAMP
Man, this is way too tempting to pass up even with the low odds of getting drawn. I'll have to give it a little thought for a week or so and make sure it's doable next year if drawn.
texastrophies
NO, NO, NO, you don't want to apply here. There are no elk!!!!!!! Don't do it. PLEASE don't do it. Sorry, that was the "I want to hunt there" part of me. I don't need to say anything about Steve, and if you look back at my mule deer hunt from last year, it is in this room, you will see some pictures with an example of the elk there. I too will be more than willing to help anyone with the application process, except for the payment part, if you need it. Like Steve said, the odds are long, but the hunt I got drawn for this year had three tags in the random draw and 157 applicants and I got one of the tags. So it can be done if you apply. If you don't apply, you probably won't get drawn.
stevebeilgard
the area is open next year. if you apply for the most expensive tag, chances are about 5%. even better with points. there was some winterkill, but you'll still see lots of big elk. probably only six or so a day instead of 15-20. archery is september, rifle is november 5. pointing_dogs_rule
Chances are slim for a NON-RESIDENT drawing in this area for elk, however, there are some nice elk in that area. The last two years that I've hunted antelope we've seen elk and heard them bugle. Less this year then last year. Camping in the area is REALLY NEAT with lots of pretty country. I am sure Steve wil set you straight. Here is a photo of a bull that was in a wallow, near the road this year. good luck to all the dog
