No kills, missed an antelope at last light running directly away at 300-500 yards. Desperation shot but more itchy trigger finger, I wanted the lead to touch air. Didn't see any deer, deer hunting and after hours finally saw those lopes. Steve is baffled by the lack of animals, somethings happened, like a huge winter kill off or something. Oh well, trip has been a blast and I'm just glad pops killed a deer. Going again in the morning.

Still have that area's weather saved in our dtv receiver along with our local, looked at it last Friday and saw it was going to be in the 80's there for highs. Does not help for deer hunting. Steve is very good at finding them though, it ain't over and things can change anytime.

Good luck.

Here's the latest from Ben:

No deer this morning. Very warm and the animals are nowhere to be found. Heading out to some public land now for some antelope, where I shot last night. We are actually going to do it right this time and give it a solid effort.

Here's the latest from Ben:

No antelope, numbers are way down. It's sad and Steve says that all the people that have hunted here before me will not even believe the low numbers we are seeing. Going deer hunting again in the morning and then Steve leaves us for family commitments. Dad and I will drive some public land looking for antelope in the afternoon. My goal is complete though, I wanted dad to kill a deer and he did. All else is a bonus. Steve is giving it his all as are dad and I, the animals just aren't here. Record highs for tomorrow, great.

Got this late last night from Ben.....I was asleep so just now posting :D :

No dead animals today, did a great hike and heard/saw some elk which is nice. Saw a few does as well. One of those might die tomorrow. Didn't antelope hunt, dad was tired and really wanted to see Mt. Rushmore so we ran over there this afternoon and evening. Got two days left before dad leaves. Steve left us today at noon for the week so we will hunt hard for two days and I might hunt Friday by myself. All in all it's been an amazing time. Talked to a DNR officer and found out that there are no animals anywhere, a ton died this winter and most that survived the winter, died of hoof rot. There is an area that they see 500 plus every year and we have seen 34 the past 4 days. Oh well, that is life.
